Nuance Pro not staying in place
Nuance Pro not staying in place
So far I've been adjusting to the Nuance Pro okay, and aside from some issues with mask rainout (which I'm working out pretty well, I think), my issue has been the back strap sliding up my head. For the first time last night, I had the machine on for a full eight hours without removing it, but I woke up at least a few times during the night with the mask feeling very loose and leaking slightly and found myself having to pull the strap back down on the back of my head multiple times. I haven't pulled the SH data yet (I will after work) and the machine only showed an AHI of 2.0, but I've been in zombie mode much of the day. I'm wondering if it's my hair - it's as long right now as it's ever been in my life and I've been thinking about getting it cut much shorter... could it just be that the "sticky" strap is gripping my hair and my hair is sliding around on my head as I move? I am somewhat notorious for having some spectacular bed-head in the morning. Should I be going for that haircut sooner rather than later or is there something I'm missing here?

You might try it with freshly-washed, but not conditioned, hair.
Natural oils can make hair slip around on itself.
(Or you could rub a little surf wax into the hair right behind the strap)

Re: Nuance Pro not staying in place
There have been some issues with the sticky stuff on the headband. Sometimes it works fine. Other times it seems to get too sticky and pull your hair out.
I took a baby sock, cut the toe off and slid it over the back band. The cotton fabric seems to do as good a job as the sticky stuff and it doesn't pull my hair out.
In spite of all of this I still find myself pulling the back of the strap down during the night. This usually happens during rolling over.
My best solution idea so far has been to entice my wife to run her fingers through my hair as we sleep pulling the strap down in the process... This has been a very hard sell

I don't' know how long your hair is, because if it's a buzz cut or something really short like that, this trick won't work. What I do is make a horizontal part in my hair along the top edge of the band in the back (just using my finger), and pull the upper section of hair over the band. That bit of skin seems to stop the slippage for me. Wish I had enough hair for a ponytail, but, whatever, this works for me. YMMV.

Re: Nuance Pro not staying in place
Hi Jeff- I occasionally use a Nuance mask, and have found that over time, the straps slip too much while sleeping also. I had an extra strap that came with a different mask, and was able to position it under the back strap, and loop the ends through the Velcro fasteners at the front of the mask. This definitely holds the Nuance in place. If you don't have an extra strap, you could try a section of pantyhose or maybe a band of another material. I think the Nuance is very comfortable, but keeping it on takes some creative ideas sometimesJeffV wrote:So far I've been adjusting to the Nuance Pro okay, and aside from some issues with mask rainout (which I'm working out pretty well, I think), my issue has been the back strap sliding up my head.
