Confused - why would ASV call 50 sec event a hypopnea?
So it's my second night on ASV, and I took at look at my data in sleepyhead this morning, and I noticed that I'm having very few central and obstructive events, which is great (AHI of 10.99 and 8.47), but then I looked at the details for the hypopnea events (50 events the first night and 45 last night) and sleepyhead has them lasting for as long as 58 seconds. That seems really odd to me, because I thought hypopneas were less than 10 seconds. Is there something I'm not understanding here?
Also, I would like to post a screen shot of my report, but I don't know quite how to do that since you can't upload attachments. I've looked around for instructions, and I know I need to link to another web host to show the image, but I could still use some guidance.
Thanks in advance!

apneas and hypopneas are, by definition 10 seconds or longer, hypops are reductions of airflow over an extended period, not short apneas.mossytreesprite wrote:So it's my second night on ASV, and I took at look at my data in sleepyhead this morning, and I noticed that I'm having very few central and obstructive events, which is great (AHI of 10.99 and 8.47), but then I looked at the details for the hypopnea events (50 events the first night and 45 last night) and sleepyhead has them lasting for as long as 58 seconds. upload your screenshots (please use the f12 or view/take screenshot menu option) to some place like imgur.com, it's best to create a free acct. then in your message here, post the bbcode link that imgur gives you for the image.

How about timed breaths? I tried to look that up, but I couldn't find a definition. Is that possibly when the machine is breathing for me (as opposed to patient triggered breaths?) I'm going to try posting my screen shots - we'll see if I did it correctly...

Definitely didn't do it correctly... why is this so complicated for me?!

go into each image on imgur, and on the right, there's a series of boxes with stuff in them, click on the link next to the bbcode, or linkedbbcode, then paste that here.
like:

your first link above was bad, but the second at least got us to the right area.
also, the best things to show are detail tab on the left, (like you did) then event flags, flow, mask pressure, leaks, snore charts (as a basis) you can drag and drop, and resize the charts to fit.
time breaths are the opposite of pt triggered breaths, so you guessed right on that one.

Re: Confused - why would ASV call 50 sec event a hypopnea?
Please put your equipment information in your signature line. There's a link in my signature line on how to do this. Your machine will be a PR System One REMstar BiPAP AutoSV Advanced.
You need to zoom in on the hypopnea in question. However, a long hypopnea is not unusual. Also, realize a hypopnea isn't as bad as an apnea, since you are still breathing to some extent. Sometimes, the machines flag something as a hypopnea, but you really didn't reduce your breathing that much when you go and look at it.
When you're trying to figure out how to imbed a picture, use the "preview" function to see how it's going to show up before you post it.

Okay, I think the problem was that I set up an album, which didn't list a bbcode on the side. Here's another try of a screen shot from a couple of nights ago on CPAP from ResScan... I'm definitely doing better already on ASV.

Hi Archangle - I will put my equipment in my signature line, but they are switching me over to a ResMed VPAP on Monday, so I thought I would wait until I am using the machine that I will be on for a while.
I guess I misunderstood what a hypopnea was before. Lesson learned.

yeah, i only put things in an album when I want to show multiple things in a group... like I've got 16 or so pics showing how to take apart a resmed s9... that's in an albummossytreesprite wrote:Okay, I think the problem was that I set up an album, which didn't list a bbcode on the side.

Re: Confused - why would ASV call 50 sec event a hypopnea?
That PR ASV is doing a heck of a good job, other than the Hypopnea. Bumping up the EPAPmin a tad might help those a bit. It will be interesting to compare that with teh ResMed unit. I am not sure I would give that unit up without a fight.
