Oracle 452 on ResMed S9
Oracle 452 on ResMed S9
Hello,
I have a ResMed S9 AutoSet with a ResMed Quatro FX full face mask.
Machine is set on minimum pressure 7.0 and Max 15.0 according to the doctor.
Now I have bought a new mask which is the Oracle 452 Mouth only and I have 2 questions
1) on the clinical menu (hidden menu) it has option for mask but only for full face, nasal or pillow. There is no option for mouth because ResMed has no mouth masks. What should I select there?
2) I am pretty sure 7/15 pressure for mouth only is not a good idea. Do you have any suggestion what pressure to try?
And dont advice me to go to the doctor please, they dont know about mouth masks. They have never seen it and they cant setup.
Any help is appreciated.

Full face, nasal, or pillow shouldn't affect things that much. It should mostly have minor effects on things like EPR and apnea detection. As a guess, try pillow because the dead air space is fairly small, but experiment if you have trouble.
Why do you think 7/15 would be a particular problem with an oral mask? I don't see why it would be.

Re: Oracle 452 on ResMed S9
Because I tried it and I wasnt able to breath. Too much air, cant handle it.
Its obvious, when there is more space (full face) you can have more pressure and air than a oral which goes directly to your mouth.

How is that different from a mask with pillows where the air goes directly up your nose?dinko wrote:Because I tried it and I wasnt able to breath. Too much air, cant handle it.

Re: Oracle 452 on ResMed S9
Perhaps the issue may be resolved by using the ramp function to allow you to get to sleep.
The actual pressure inside the FFM and inside the Oracle should be almost the same.
The Oracle mask is sometimes difficult to get used to.
Please read my post on lessons learned with the Oracle - the link is in my signature block.
Let me know if there is any way I can help.

Re: Oracle 452 on ResMed S9
Your pressure should stay the same whatever type of mask you use - I would try the nasal mask setting then the pillow.
I've tried hybrids and could not stand the mouth pressure either - ended up cleaning out my sinuses and switched to pillows - my pressure is 10-20.

Re: Oracle 452 on ResMed S9
I use the resmed s9 autoset, and I use both the Quattro fx and oracle mask. I use the full face setting for both. And I leave the pressure setting the same for both: 11-17.
I think once you get used to it, it won't feel so different. I breathe through my mouth only when I am lying down, so it doesn't feel any different to me. The Quattro fx is just a bubble around my mouth while the oracle is more like a pacifier. The only odd thing for me was getting used to the piece that goes a little inside the mouth. I had to modify it a little so that it doesn't do that.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?
Re: Oracle 452 on ResMed S9
The pressure will be the same in both cases. Keeping the pressure constant is sort of the whole point of the machine.dinko wrote:Because I tried it and I wasnt able to breath. Too much air, cant handle it.
Its obvious, when there is more space (full face) you can have more pressure and air than a oral which goes directly to your mouth.
However, it may feel different to you since it's delivered differently. In which case, turn the maximum pressure down a bit until you get used to it, then turn it back up.
Get SleepyHead and monitor your results to see how your therapy is working, especially if you tinker with the pressure.

Re: Oracle 452 on ResMed S9
Thank you all very much for your suggestions.
Also I want to thanks @JDS74 for the excellent article on the oral mask
I selected Oracle because almost by 90% I breath from mouth. Nasal masks don't work for me.
I will follow your advices and I will set for the first days the min pressure a bit lower (ie 5) and then I will progressively get it back to 7.
Also, I will increase the ramp number (now is 5, to 15-20).
I hope it will work for me because Quattro FX is covering my face and sometimes I wake up without the mask. Looks like its so annoying and during the night I take it off. But I cant remember that when I wake up.
