nasal mask- my loud breathing sounds waking up husband

Post by arch » Sun Oct 26, 2014 5:45 pm

Hi
I am using resmeds9 auto cpap with h5i humidifier heated hose and TrueBlue gel nasal mask or wisp nasal from philips.

My therapy/ treatment was going very well for last 4 months since I began.

Last 2-3 weeks I am experiencing that my breathing is becoming audible to me and hubby pretty loud kind of sounds amplified when using mask. Making it difficult for me to fall asleep and my husband wakes up due to it. I switched off EPR after reading few posts but that did not resolve my problem yet.

Pls help suggest solutions or what could be wrong.

This forum has been immensely helpful for me as a newbie.

Hi

Updating- my husband says it actually sounds like darthvader sounds and he can even hear my snoring at times. This is more with wisp nasal mask which is new but otherwise comfortable and with the true blue gel nasal mask its increased recently as I have been using it for 4 months now.
As result we have both gone back to disturbed sleep now after 3.5 months of bliss on that front

Hope to hear from some of you soon.

Mask cushions wearing out and needing replacement? That can cause the increase in breathing sound "volume" sometimes.

As for snoring, that suggests to me your pressure is not quite doing its job -- do you use SleepyHead or ResScan to check on your AHI, leaks, etc.?

Is the "Darth Vader" sound coming from the mask or does it come from the humidifier? If it seems to be coming from the humidifier, what is the water level? With my PRS1, if the water level is maximum it seems noisier, than say if it is half full.

Hi, a little thing, but on my mask, if I don't re-seat the cushion and thin plastic 'ring' that holds it in place very carefully, I get all kinds of odd noises, and while your mask is different, it might be worth going over every tiny connection or fitting to be sure everything is in place. Also check when you're awake with the machine going, but not on you... and look for tiny holes where the hose attaches - cats can be a nuisance!

Hi eleong2,
The noise is my breathing from mask. Not the humidifier. Thanks

Hi kaiasgram
Thanks
It's been 3+ months for my TrueBlue and the wisp is new so not sure but will check. Even the TrueBlue should last longer. It looks quite OK. Being in Singapore replacing parts or entire mask is expensive. Not covered by medical insurance and prices are very high. Ordering from cpap.com takes 3 weeks so wondering if there is a quick fix

Hi kaiasagram
Yes I looked at data. Leeks are higher now days at about 6L rather than 2L avg earlier. Ahi is fine below 0.8 always. No change on that

So cushions are leaking I guess. Will look at replacing soon. U think liners will work in meantime short term soon?
