Heated hose + cover: should I lower temp?

Post by TyroneShoes » Thu Oct 16, 2014 10:30 pm

I am getting a hose snuggy for aesthetic reasons. The ClimateLine hose takes care of the temp. But should I lower it a degree or two to compensate once the snuggy is on?

I have never had a rainout; never seen a drop of condensation in this hose.

There shouldn't be any reason to do so for safety, only if you find it more comfortable. I've only used my CPAP without a cover on my heated hose a few times, so I'm not sure how much a difference it makes in air temperature.

Technical question related to this issue.

Does anyone know whether either ResMed or Respironics heated hose humidifiers have a thermostat in the hose itself?
Or, does the system use a thermostat within either the blower unit or in the humidifier itself to measure temperature and therefore to regulate hose temperature?

This is mostly a hardware question.

I believe the temp sensor on the ResMed hose is the little orange thing inside the mask end. The "wire" along the hose is the heating element and the cable for this sensor - hence the multiple contacts at the humidifier end.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I took a look in the mask end of the Respironics heated hose and there is a bump there.
The humidifier end seems to have only three connectors to account for the heated wire element. Maybe there is some way to get the thermistor data back and also control the heater element using only three connectors.
How many electrical connectors on the ResMed hose?

My ClimateLine hose has a little orange plastic looking thingy just inside the hose about an inch or so inside the coupling at the mask end of the hose.
A the humidifier end there's a little thing that appears to have 3 contact points..at least 3 little circles in the plastic part that connects to the humidifier.

power, ground, sense.

how many wires did you figure you'd need?
