ResScan 3.7 problem on new Win8.1 PC
I had this post all typed and ready to go, then it vanished on me. So the info below is WAY shorter than the original post (probably a good thing).
I haven't been able to view data for several days, suggestions to fix problem would be much appreciated.
Recently installed ResScan 3.7 on a new Windows 8.1 PC. I transferred the software from the old PC via flash drive. Software worked perfectly for 5 days on new PC. Day 6- got error message as software was opening. Now it does not recognize that my data card reader is attached which means I can't download data. I am using the data card reader that was made to read the old blue ResScan data cards (that fit S8 machines). My S8 does NOT have a way to connect directly to PC via USB.
In case it makes sense to anyone who may read this, error code is as follows:
intf! = 0
C;\PROGRA~1\Borland\CBUILD~1\Bin\..\include\vcl\UtilCls.h/2868
Any thoughts/suggestions??

Re: ResScan 3.7 problem on new Win8.1 PC
I don't have a clue what that error code means, but I think I would back up the data and update to the latest version of ResScan (5.1) the older versions seemed to have a lot of problems with the drivers for the smartcard reader. Perhaps the new windows thought the drivers should be updated and updated to the wrong version.
If you do a search on ACR38, you'll find a number of posts that relate to drivers for that reader and how to check the correct one is installed.
In fact, I'd probably do that first.
When I have time, I'll see if I can find an appropriate reference and post it here.

Your not alone: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=93514&p=887241&hilit=acr38#p887241 maybe it's an 8.1 problem, there is a reference in this thread for driver download (posted by Sludge)

Re: ResScan 3.7 problem on new Win8.1 PC
Thank you Jay.
I thought about updating software. I am planning to update my 13,894 hour machine very soon and then I can use sleepyhead. I will do the ACR38 driver search first, but not until tomorrow-- too close to bedtime tonight.
Appreciate your thoughts as the driver for the smart card reader had not once occurred to me.
Thanks again!

Re: ResScan 3.7 problem on new Win8.1 PC
Here's another thread that could be helpful: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=70575&p=652615&hili ... ee#p652615 and in it is a step-by-step for checking/updating drivers viewtopic.php?f=1&t=70575&p=652615&hili ... ee#p652797
At some point, maybe around 4.3, ResMed fixed ResScan to have the correct drivers for the S8
Good luck tomorrow!

Re: ResScan 3.7 problem on new Win8.1 PC
There's no need to search for the ACR-38 driver because it's included with the ResScan installer, including version 5.1. The installer will warn you that if the driver is already installed, you do not need to install it again.

Try unplugging the card reader and plug it into a different USB port.
I presume you're tried shutting the machine down and restarting.

Re: ResScan 3.7 problem on new Win8.1 PC
Yes, that's right, but there was a series of versions of ResScan which had broken S8 drivers that was subsequently corrected. That's what I was referring to here:big_dave wrote:There's no need to search for the ACR-38 driver because it's included with the ResScan installer, including version 5.1. The installer will warn you that if the driver is already installed, you do not need to install it again.
The ACR 38 search recommendation was to provide the OP some information about how to check whether or not the correct driver was installed, because if allowed, Windows could update to the wrong (newer) driver version.Jay Aitchsee wrote:At some point, maybe around 4.3, ResMed fixed ResScan to have the correct drivers for the S8
I agree the simplest solution could be to upgrade to 5.1, if arch's suggestions (above) don't work.

Re: ResScan 3.7 problem on new Win8.1 PC
I have my data back
Feeling a bit foolish though as I spent hours (both before and after asking for help) trying to remedy the problem when I finally remembered that someone (archangle) suggested shutting down the computer and restarting...duh. Why I don't think of that first when I have a problem, I'll never know.
Anyway... thank you so very much to Jay and archangle and big_dave for your thoughts and suggestions.
Now, time to look at that data I've been missing out on....yay!!!

You'd be surprised how often that happens.magentapolkadots wrote:I have my data back

Figuring out the complicated problems is easy. It's usually the simple things that take forever to fix.
I'm always a little embarrassed to ask the dumb questions like "have you tried turning it off, is it plugged in, is there a power outage, etc.," but I've learned to do that.
