Any Advice Please!

Post by tjmc1122 » Mon Oct 06, 2014 5:07 pm

Hi my names Janene

I'm looking at purchasing a S8 Resmed Autoset spirit II platinum from online secondhand, I've just tried to contact RESMED who don't sell this model anymore and want to sell me updated version.

The question I asked them is if this model is ok for a person with combined OSA and CSA, I've been told 'no' by Resmed and they refer me to what there selling, I just want to make sure if that's true 'YES or NO' so I don't miss the opportunity of purchasing this item that has only 147hrs usage on the setting.

Would appreciate any assistance from knowledgable Resmed VPAP or Bipap users on CPAP talk, thank you in advance. Look forward to hearing from you.

CSA ....is that central sleep apnea (centrals only)?
or Complex Sleep Apnea (mixture of centrals and obstructives for whatever reason)?

If centrals are numerous enough to get included in the diagnosis then the AutoSet isn't the machine of choice.
Most often the need is for that high dollar ASV type of machine....Adapt in the ResMed line.

It's not a good deal if it won't treat the centrals you have. Cpap/Apap is for plain obstructive sleep apnea...won't help the centrals at all and if the centrals are caused by cpap pressure it could possibly make them worse.

What does your doctor recommend?

Thank you Pugsy, your explanation makes sense, after one night sleep testing, (which he hardly slept) so I was assuming combined with snoring problems it's both, the specialist says reading is for central, however I think we need a second opinion because the doctor didnt' even mention Centralised Sleep apnea, yes I was told S9 Adapt by the Resmed Tech which is very high end, thank you I appreciate your reply. have a great day

If he has only had the one sleep study..the diagnostic sleep study without being hooked up to a cpap machine and the centrals are high enough....he gets the central sleep apnea diagnosis.
He may not even have had any obstructives to get the ComplexSA or mixed apnea diagnosis. Not everyone has the obstructive side of the diagnosis.

Either way....the Adapt type of ASV machine is needed when centrals are numerous.....be it ComplexSA or CentralSA.
Might want to get second opinion to make sure someone didn't screw up the analysis of the sleep data recorded but in most cases it's pretty cut and dry.

It's not 'centralized' - just central.
