new to c-pap but feel worse
new to c-pap but feel worse
I feel like a truck hit me after using a c-pap for 7 days. every muscle and bone in my body hurts especially knees. Is this normal? Why would this be?

You have given us absolutely NO information to go on.dhbrittain wrote:I feel like a truck hit me after using a c-pap for 7 days. every muscle and bone in my body hurts especially knees. Is this normal? Why would this be?
That's like asking why your truck gets lousy gas mileage......and we don't know what kind of truck you're driving or how you're driving it. (since you used the analogy of getting hit by a truck)
Please register on the forum, add all of your specific equipment into your profile.......including all of your machine settings, including your pressure, humidifier and anything else you can think of.
In other words, we need more background information.
AND, one week isn't very long. It can take MONTHS to feel the changes from this therapy. It's a matter of "education" (yours) and "baby steps".

Re: new to c-pap but feel worse
Hello and welcome. Can you give us a bit more to go on? The first thing is to be sure your treatment is therapeutic. I'd suggest you register (it's free) and list your equipment. You could do this without registering but the only way the reader would know in the future is to be reading the guest post where you said it, and we do hope this will not be your only thread. When you register, it comes up automatically at the bottom of every post. Also, what pressure are you using?
Your description of how you feel (pain especially in knees) makes me want to know if your sleep study mentioned anything about limb movements, or if anyone has told you your legs move a lot in your sleep?

Welcome. Please sign up for an ID and fill in the equipment on your profile. If you have the right CPAP machine, we may be able to tell you how to check if the CPAP is working right. There's a link in my signature line about how to fill this in.
If you have trouble figuring out what machine you have, tell us what is says on the top near the display and switch.
Even if the CPAP is working in terms of eliminating apnea, sometimes your body has a hard time adjusting. Your body and brain got used to being strangled in your sleep several times an hour. You get stress hormones that get you keyed up, your blood chemistry adjusts, etc. When you stop, it can be like stopping caffeine, alcohol, cigarettes, or many drugs.
You can also be not sleeping well because the CPAP disturbs you or the you've gotten too used to being strangled. It's like people who live in the city near a noisy street, but can sleep when they are out in the country where it's quiet.
Most people don't have the above problems, but some do. It should go away after a while. Rest assured that untreated sleep apnea is doing damage to your brain, heart, and long term health.
You might also need some adjustment to your CPAP machine settings. That's why it's so important to have a good fully data capable machine that can record how your therapy is working.
