REMstar Auto A-Flex SysOne is starting by itself?

Post by MisterBob13 » Sun Oct 05, 2014 4:27 am

hi folks
I have been using this machine for about 6 months now (CPAP overall for 15+ years).
A few days ago, I found that I can put the nose-only mask on my head and just by exhaling and inhaling through my nose, the machine will turn on without my pressing any buttons on the unit itself.

Is there an "auto-start" setting of some sort?
If not, is my machine actually malfunctioning somehow?
Can't find any clues in the manual.

Thoughts?

Thank you.

Hello MisterBob13,

this is the autostart feature of the System One. It is normal behavior, nothing is wrong. You could set this feature on or off in the clinical menue of the machine.

Greetings

Ditto ! Use this all the time. Saves leaning over to turn the machine on!

Interesting that I never triggered it in the past 6 months.

Glad to know and I thank you!

It's triggered by the force of your breathing and maybe volume of air in the mask and takes a few seconds. Maybe in the past you just didn't give it enough time to kick on if you know you didn't go into the setup menu and turn that feature on.
Or maybe you changed masks.
Sometimes with very low starting pressures (like with ramp being used) and nasal pillows it takes a little bit for the machine to sense breathing and turn on.

Hello Woody,
if the machine does not start immediately, why not closing shortly the emergency exhalation opening of your FFM with your finger?

Greetings

Yes I sometimes do that. Funny about a year ago I also asked about this same topic I
thought something was wrong with my unit just to find out it was normal.

in my experience, the resmed s9's are much *much* easier to 'remote start' than the respironics.

admittedly, this is only over a sample size of two of each.

Obviously haunted.

First you will need an old priest, and a young priest...

Masks leaks directly impact this feature.
