Question About Resmed S9 Autoset

Post by H4X0R46 » Sun Sep 28, 2014 4:42 pm

Hello all! So, today I noticed that my Autoset says Days > 4 hrs. and I understand what that is, but for some reason, it says 24 > 30 and the 30 NEVER seems to change! I know I've used this machine for more than a month, what does it mean when that number doesn't change? Or is there an explanation for this? Thanks guys!

I assume you're looking at the display that's on the machine. That will only tell you about the last 30 days of use. If you want more detailed information you have to take the card out of the machine and import the data into a program like Sleepyhead or Resscan which will give you the complete picture, including a lot of information that the machine display will not tell you.

You can change the "30" to 1, 7, 90, 180 or 360 by pushing the big button that turns twice then turning it to cycle through the periods. I usually leave mine at "1" so that I can see my previous night's sleep even if I don't get around to checking it before noon. I usually download my data once a week and look at it in ResScan or SleepyHead.

Thanks guys! That was confusing me quite a bit! One more question about compliance, is the compliance checked by a percentage, or just by number of days over 4 hours? Like, let's say I only wear it for 3 hours one night, does it help compliance AT ALL? Or does it ONLY matter of it was 4 hours? Thanks again guys!

Best to check with your insurance company the exact compliance period (30,60,90 days) and the number of hours per night they consider compliant. They control the money after all.

Do insurance companies usually only check the compliance for a certain number of days? Or is that just different in every situation?

It's a % of so many nights with over 4 hours of use. Exact number will depend on your insurance company but if they follow Medicare's guidelines (and a good many do) then it's 70% of the nights within a consecutive 30 day period must have at least 4 hours of usage.

Using it 3 hours one night and 8 hours the next night won't help out that 3 hour night. Doesn't work that way.
Each day starts at 0....you don't get any hold over credits from a night you exceeded the 4 hours.

So typically 21 days out of a consecutive 30 day period it must be used over 4 hours for those 21 nights.
Your insurance may have a different numerical requirement though so it is best to check with them to be sure if you don't know if your insurance uses Medicare's guidelines or not. You must be attached to the machine too. Long time ago just turning the machine on and letting it blow could be done to satisfy the requirements but these machines now know if you are attached or not because they can sense actual breathing. Now it can be used while awake and watching TV or reading because the machine doesn't know if you are awake or asleep. So that's a way to meet compliance when a person is having trouble meeting the 4 hours a night. A nap will also count towards usage...it doesn't have to be 4 hours in one chunk. It's 4 hours within a 24 hour period.

Once again, detailed data is held for 30 days, it is only high rate data which is held for 7 days!
