S9 Hypopneas & Leakage Question

Post by Sleep_Pirate » Sun Sep 28, 2014 12:40 pm

Hi - I'm new to CPAP and have learned a lot by mostly lurking here. I have a few questions about the S9 and hypopneas. My SH screenshot from last night is below.

- My hypopneas seem to be roughly correlated with leaks that are close or exceed the leak line. Are these hypopneas real, or can the machine not reliably indicate hypopneas when leaks exceed the 24L line?
- Can I do anything to bring the hypopneas down, either with pressure changes or something else? I think most of my leaks are due to mouth breathing. I've ordered a chin strap to try and see if that helps.
- How concerned should I be about these numbers? I know hypopneas are not as bad as apneas, but I'd like to see my total AHI consistently lower (it has been on some days).

Are you a back or side sleeper?

I mostly fall asleep on my left side, but it turns out I end up on my back after 1-2 hours. My sleep study noted my position was about 20% left side and 80% supine. This was one of many sleep related discoveries so far - I previously thought I slept on my side the whole night.

Maybe work on staying off your back and increasing minimum pressure closer to what they 95% is.

I think you diagnosed your cituation accurately.
You need to keep your mouth shut or switch to a full face mask.

What version of sleepyhead are you using? It seems you are displaying a weird number for pressure setting. The current version is 0.9.6.

What mask are you using? do you have your S9 set for the correct mask type?

As you can see I am much better at asking questions than answering them.

Good luck with your chin strap. Mine helped quite a bit.
