Just wanted to post an update and figured I should start a new thread...
I took the sleep study a month ago, just had a follow up with the cardiologist that ordered the sleep study to go over all results from the echocardiogram, 48hr holter monitor, and sleep study. The echo & holter came back normal just like all the previous heart tests. I also told him about shallow breathing, shortness of breath, and oxygen going from 90-100 during daytime and he told me I have OHS/OHVS. Imagine that, 7 months and over a dozen visits to PCP and ER and nobody could figure anything out and the PCP & PA were unwilling to refer me to a cardiologist but when they finally gave in 1 month ago, the cardiologist immediately orders a sleep study and on our follow up, he diagnoses me with OHS, which makes sense because my blood pressure is all over the place and hard to control by meds, which is common with OHS. Oh and in other news, I forget if I mentioned this in a previous post, but I got a DVT in my left calf 3 days after my sleep study and after a month, it's improving! Swelling is way down and pain is almost non existent.
Here's a little summary of the sleep report...
Diagnostic portion
Total sleep time 132 minutes
# of Apnea's 6, mean dur 14.1sec, max dur 15sec, total dur 1.4min
# of Hypop's 24, mean dur 26.2, max dur 50.5, total dur 10.5min
AH # was 13.6/hr
Mean oxygen saturation was below normal at 90% with a minimum of 82%.
Cardiac summary, average HR during sleep 55.3bpm, highest 159bpm
Cardiac event observations (afib, bradycaria, etc), none found.
Therapy portion w/ CPAP
Total sleep time 125.4 minutes
# of Apnea's 24, mean dur 13.1sec, max dur 20sec, total dur 5.2min
# of Hypop's 2, mean dur 17.5sec, max dur 22sec, total dur 0.6min
Minimum oxygen was 86% w/ avg of 96%
Cardiac summary, average HR during sleep 69.1bpm, highest 100bpm
Cardiac event observations (afib, bradycaria, etc), none found.
They started CPAP pressure on 5 and increased to 12 to eliminate all apnea/hypops, min oxygen saturation was 94% with pressure set to 12.
Diagnostic portion Impression
Mild OSA
Therapy portion Impression
Suboptimal titration with no supine REM sleep
Control of OSA side sleep at a pressure of 12
RECOMMENDATIONS
1. Mild OSA
2. Recommend a trial of Auto CPAP with pressure set between 9 and 20 with A-flex, heated humidifier, and downloadable capabilities.
3. Recommend followup in 61-90 days to assess clinical benefit and compliance
4. just explained possible alternative treatments.......
Still waiting on my machine because they sent the script to Tuality medical supply and they were giving me the runaround for a week, everyone was telling me something different, so I told them to fly a kite and am in the process of going through providence medical supply which I believe will deliver equiptment and send a sleep thereapist to the house.
Got copy of sleep report, still waiting on CPAP...

Have you read enough to know how to recognize a brick? I'd read Jan's blog posts: http://tinyurl.com/2arffqx and http://maskarrayed.wordpress.com/2011/0 ... -machines/
The latter is a little out of date (doesn't include the new ResMed machines - hint, hint, Jan!), but will give you a good background

Between work, eBay, daily chores, and all the health issues, I haven't had the time to read up on everything yet but I hope to get caught up on all the research by Monday. I am a little confused by the doc mentioning "Auto CPAP". Is that the same thing as APAP? Also, he mentioned heated humidifier, is that the heated hose I've heard about?
My insurance will cover 100% for DME, so I just want to pick out the best machine the DME has and want to make sure I don't get a 2004 model instead of a 2014. The DME here will even deliver to my house and send a sleep therapist to show me how to use it but I'm not sure if they'll bring a bunch of masks for me to try on, so I'm thinking maybe I should go down there to see which one I like best.

Resmed A10 Autoset for her is the newest one. Out or about a month.
Heated hose and heated humidifier are 2 separate things. I have always had both.
Yes Auto CPAP and APAP are the same thing and describe the machine I mentioned above.
The mask is very personal and your choice may change with the weather or your mood. This week my favorite is the Wisp nasal mask. I also like the SleepWeaver Élan.
Good luck on your new journey.

Re: Got copy of sleep report, still waiting on CPAP...
Thanks for the reply, I appreciate the help! Hopefully I'll get squared away with a machine next week. It's been almost 2 weeks since I found out I had OSA and I've had a lot of sleepless nights since, staying up til 4am, going to bed, waking up at 2am and not going back to sleep, etc...so glad I finally got a doctor who diagnosed me with something other than palpitations, anxiety, panic attacks, and high blood pressure. Hoping CPAP therapy takes care of those & other symptoms.bwexler wrote:Resmed A10 Autoset for her is the newest one. Out or about a month.
