I took a home sleep study about a month ago (due to not having insurance) and the results came back the following. I don't understand from what i have read my obstructions per hour were on the "normal" range. So, maybe is there something else i'm not seeing?
Respiratory data: There were 27 Respiratory events consisting of 10 apneas (10 obstructive and 0 suspected central episodes) and 7 hypopneas. The AHI was 3.4 event per hour. Back sleep was 330.5 minuets and spent 139.5 minutes off back. The back index AHI was 4.2 per hour and the off back was 1.7.
Patients baseline o2 saturation was 95.6%. The patient spent 1.5 mins at an oxygen sat less than 90% and .1 mins less than 85%. The desaturation was 2.8 events per hour sleep time. The lowest saturation was 88%.
Pulse rate review: The mean heart rate was 93 beats per min. The rate ranged from a low of 37 to a high of 139 per minute.
Diagnosis: Hypersomnia with sleep apnea
Confusion over CPAP need
Re: Confusion over CPAP need
Doesn't make a lot of sense to me (the sleep apnea part).
If I were you I'd test again, this time making a serious point of not back sleeping (use pillows, wedges, anything to keep it from happening) and see what the numbers look like. I think you might just have what's called 'positional apnea', in other words you don't register as having apnea unless you're on your back, maybe snoring, possibly with your mouth open. But off your back you don't qualify and so wouldn't need treatment as long as you learn to sleep on your sides.
The hypersomnia thing means you sleep a lot, and that may be related to many other things such as a thyroid problem, low T, etc. etc. which you can ask your MD about.

Re: Confusion over CPAP need
Your hart rate seems very eratic.
You might want to see a cardiologist. I would make a wild guess at Atrial Fibrilation.
But don't try to treat yourself based on my guess. I am not a doctor. Just a poor shmo with Afib and Apnea.
