I use a couple drops of Dawn, with hot tap water and a soft brush that can reach all the crannies.
I then rinse with hot tap water. I do this right before bedtime, so drying is not an issue.
My sense of smell is sharp enough that I usually clean it before there is anything visible.

Have had my machine approaching a year. From the beginning, I have used distilled water for filling. No deposits have appeared what so ever. I keep a gallon bottle handy (very cheap, easy and long lasting), and simply add to the reservoir as needed. I then occasionally clean the reservoir with tap water and a small amount of mild dish soap. After rinsing, I blow dry it with a hair blow dryer. I have never had the slightest hint of residue. Just saying............
