I'm going in for my third sleep study next week but this time I have to spend the night and all the next day. Has anyone else had to stay all day? What do they have you doing all day? They are testing me to see how tired I am during the day. How do they do that? Thanks.

Two day sleep study
Daytime sleep study
Hi. Yes, I've had that done twice. They woke me at 6:00am and I had to lay down for a 20 minute nap at 8, 10, 12, 2, and 4. Can't sleep in between naps. Two things in particular they want to see - how long it takes you to fall asleep each nap, and what levels of sleep you achieve. This will be a good indicator of your daytime sleepiness. Just enjoy a chance to nap all day with no apologies!

Day study things to do
At mine, I had access to magazines, books and the TV. If those put you to sleep, maybe work on a project you've been looking forward to but haven't had the time to do it.. I had to keep moving to stay awake between sessions.

i've done this one and am doing it again monday. if you're really daytime sleepy, it will be a challenge to get up and stay up when they say to. it may feel like you sleep all day, which except for the "wake up and stay up" interruptions, you may. if you "sleep in" from the overnight portion of the test, the time will be shortened in which to schedule all those naps. if you're really daytime sleepy, you may be very cranky when they wake you up--I was. if you're not daytime sleepy, it's gonna seem like a lot of time in which to do movies, books, whatever.
good luck.

Ken,
You are going for an MSLT study. This is to determine whether you have Narcolepsy or not. They will wake you up in the morning and probably provide you with breakfast. You will have to stay awake for 1 1/2 hours then ly down for a 20 minute nap. After 20 mins, they will wake you up for another 1 1/2 hours. You will probably do this 4 to 5 times throughout the day. The only good news is that they will feed you and you will be able to take off the Ab and Thor belts, snore mic, finger probe and leg electrodes. This is a brutal test for patients. I always hate waking them up after just 20 minutes................If they even sleep. Good luck!
