I suffer from the same issue, more during the summer when I am running my central air conditioning 24/7. I'll be OK when I go to sleep but I'll wake up at some point and feel like I'm breathing through a straw. The NeilMed rinses help, but I need a presciption nose spray that ENT gave me; I use Nasonex, but there are others (Flonase, etc).
The spray keeps my nostrils open all night, usually. On the rare night it doesn't, I'll use Afrin (just for that one night) so I can get back to sleep.
Good luck!!
Same as above but I add a breath-rite strip Extra strength
I'll also blow my nose and redo a neilmed rinse if I take a bathroom break and feel stuffed
I might try the Afrin for those rare nights when I wake up an feel like I am breathing trough a straw...I did not realize it could be used with Flonase
Randy, do you take the Nasonex at night then? The ENT I saw last week prescribed Flonase, but indicated I should take it in the morning.
DayDreamer, do you find that the breathe right strips help?
I have a deviated septum
The breath rite strips really help
The difference is significant
I exercise in the morning and I'll keep the previous night's strip on in the morning when exercising
Try the Extra strength version

I bought some nasal strips, come to find out there is 27, 30 in each box. Those who use this, do you use one every single and purchace a new box every time? I thought I could find just one on cpap.com rather than purchasing several in a box.

Starlette, I remember once it was a post about not using Afrin because it has a terrible side effect wich make you have a stopped nose for ever ! It is mentioned in the box that it is only for occasional use.
I have a stopped nose if: I sleep without socks ; I have been in contact with dust, pollen, diesel exhaust gases, cigarette (I have an allergic reaction to all those things); if my humidifier is set too low or too high.
I help to me if I rinse my sinuses before going to bed with Neilmed saline solution or another saline solution like a neti pot. Some times I have no choice but to take a pill for allergies. In winter time the problem is worst because of the dryness all day long. I used to use something like Nasacor but stronger, I stoped using it when I started CPAP with humidifier.
Good luck my dear.

Afrin is fine for short term use, (like less than 3 days) if you use it twice a day, then you become dependent on it, and end up with an even stuffier nose until the effect wears off.
however, a clever ENT told me that if you only use it once a day, you can use it for a while, weeks, without getting addicted to it.... and i've done that in the past.

Now that makes me laugh Rosacer, who thunk sleep is better with socks. I wear my socks every night.
MAJOR PISSED: Just deleted this post. I deleted the saved post. So I had to start over....
I sit at my laptop with a migraine due to collapsing nasal passages last night, and I am NOT happy camper. I have to be concerned about them because it has something to do with seizures, which I have to report to my neurologist for every appointment. I think I can safely say that 100% of these migraines stem from collapsing nasal passages which only occur when sleeping. I cannot even imagine what it is doing to my brain. When I find myself waking up with a migraine, I usually take two tylenol twice a day. If the migraine doesn't disappear within a reasonable amount of time, I take one sudatriptan which eliminates it within 2-4 hours. Sudatriptan cannot be taken like asprin. Collapsing nasal passages is not seasonal, only random. Just wish there was something I can do like "preventative maintenance".
That's my story
