Have a prescription, what does it say?
Have a prescription, what does it say?
Although first diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea in 2009, I am just recently returning to this form of therapy. Long story. Sounds like it has been repeated many times on this forum.
Anyway, on advice gleaned from this website, I asked my HMO to provide a written prescription of the equipment being ordered for me from the DME. They did provide a written prescription.
Unfortunately, I don't see a name of the APAP unit being ordered but rather the following line:
APAP at 5-12 with A-Flex of 3 HCPC E0601.
Anyone know what machine or class of machines this is referring too? If it helps, the DME is Apria.
I will ask the HMO if necessary but I am resisting the urge to do so since I am likely already on their departmental DNR list as the result of repeated phone messages and emails to get a written prescription. Good, helpful people. Just seem to be vastly understaffed.

Re: Have a prescription, what does it say?
That RX would be what a PR System One Auto CPAP (APAP) machine would do....AFlex is Respironics term for their exhale relief and the only Respironics machine that has it is their APAP unit.
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/pr-sys ... chine.html
this machine linked above.
Since AFlex is just a form of exhale relief some DMEs might try to subsitute...and could probably get by with it as long as you are okay with the substitution.
Now if you want the Respironics brand...you could stick by your guns with it by saying "AFLex is what my doctor and I prefer" should they try to substitute.
The range of pressures gives you the APAP but don't let them try to substitute the S9 Escape Auto..it won't have the data you want.
The only brand that offers AFlex specifically is Respironics....all the others call their exhale relief something else.

Re: Have a prescription, what does it say?
The (high) probability is that it's a Philips/Respironics System One APAP (model 560) set to a range of 5 - 12 cm. with A-Flex setting of 3. The HCPC code is E0601......standard insurance code for a CPAP machine (regardless of whether it is a straight CPAP or APAP.)Crainnut wrote:Although first diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea in 2009, I am just recently returning to this form of therapy. The reason it would be a P/R System one is that it is the only company that offers "A-Flex" technology.
Hope that helps.

What Pugsy said...
If it were me I would insist on Respironics esp. if you have any plans to use the DC option for camping or just at home during a power outage.

How about a ResMed AirSense 10 autoset ... would that qualify ?

If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Re: Have a prescription, what does it say?
Unlikely, but would probably depend on the DME.grayghost4 wrote:How about a Resmen AirSense 10 autoset ... would that qualify ?
And, it's "ResMed"........not "Resmen".

it depends on how literally they took the "with aflex" bit.grayghost4 wrote:How about a ResMed AirSense 10 autoset ... would that qualify ?

Re: Have a prescription, what does it say?
My original prescription (2005) stated "C-Flex" on it, too. I didn't have to worry because I was going to get a Respironics Pro 2 from CPAP.COM (bypassing the local DMEs).
