Is my Resmed S9 automatic and what temp

Post by normhamilton » Sun Aug 24, 2014 6:14 pm

How do I tell which Resmed S9 model I have? I can set the humidity from 1to6 and can control the temperature. I understand there is an automated version as well ... Or is there some setting on mine to automate it?

What does it say right by the Start/Stop button? Elite, Escape, Autoset, Escape Auto, or something else?

Re the climate control options -- Yes there is a setting in the clinical menu to have climate control on "auto" -- if you haven't found the clinical menu yet, check out the video tutorial on the S9 machines using the link in my signature box below.

That's great, you have a fully data capable machine. So if you want to see what's going on with your therapy (leaks, apneas) you can use free software like SleepyHead.

Thanks again. Very helpful information. I have the settings working quite well for sleeping.
Now, once I get the dry mouth under control so it isn't waking me up every two hours or so ... things'll be perfect.

Norm, what mask are you using (make & model). Are you mouth-breathing/leaking?

I'm using a ResMed Mirage FX nasal mask. I tried a full-face mask but, oddly enough, found the dry mouth to be much worse.
I can only assume that the cause is leakage through the mouth. i.e. allowing air to escape through the lips.
I tried a chin strap but it didn't make any difference other than I was less comfortable trying to get to sleep.
I'm told to consciously pay attention to not allowing air through the mouth and eventually it will correct itself, but I'm not sure how to go about that.

Yeah, if your mouth really wants to open (like mine does) then a chin strap is no match for that. Some people use tape -- I never thought I would resort to that but... You'll find many discussions about taping and how to do it safely by typing "tape" or "taping" in the search box.

Some people have trained themselves to keep their tongue plastered to the roof of the mouth so that even if their mouth opens a bit, it's much more difficult for air to escape.

I have this image of me all "duct-taped" and ready for sleep.
After all, duct tape fixes everything that WD40 and a hammer don't.
