Humidifier above or below head?
Humidifier above or below head?
I read in the humidifier instruction manual to keep the machine at or below head level. I use a hose hanger, so does it matter where the machine is, as long as it isn't a strait shot from the humidifier down to your face? My machine is currently on the floor. I'd like to put it on the bedside table, which is higher than the bed.
Thanks

Re: Humidifier above or below head?
At my brother's, I have no alternative. As long as it doesn't get too cold, I'm OK.
At home, my machine sits on a child's backless chair, about box spring level.
If you get rained on, you will have an idea why.

Re: Humidifier above or below head?
I had some rainout on vacation when the machine was a couple inches above my head. At home its a few inches below the mattress and I never have condensation issues - even with A/C cranked. I don't use a hose hanger but that's a good point to consider.

With a hose hanger, you can pretty much put the machine wherever it's handy.
I like it low, as it is quieter with the edge of the bed between me and my Autoset.

Re: Humidifier above or below head?
Below -- do what it says. Below so any condensation in the line drains back into the unit and not into your face. Do not place it on carpet because it needs air circulation underneath for the motor. Hard surface only. Use a nightstand or a small table, tray, etc.
Re: Humidifier above or below head?
I will comply and keep it lower than my head. I'm new to this xpap thing, so I have no experience with rain out. I'm sure we will become good friends, as the upstairs of my house is not heated!

Re: Humidifier above or below head?
Worst case of rainout I ever had was on Sleep Test #6 this summer. The titration machine was on a table above the mattress level and at my request they cranked the humidity to 5. (I get dried out when it's not maxed out.) After the first sleep cycle I woke up to a noise that I'd never heard at home. Water in the tube and water on my nose. Yuck.
My machine is on a small kids table that we got for our oldest when she was three. I run the hose under my covers. And have no rainout problems to speak of even when our bedroom is at a frigid 62 degrees.

Re: Humidifier above or below head?
If you don't end up with water in the hose, height doesn't matter.

Re: Humidifier above or below head?
Thanks archangel. I like that answer. I will try it out once I get my other problems (mask, machine) solved.
