Touchy Smart Card Respironics Remstar Auto

Post by Malibu » Sun Mar 19, 2006 10:56 am

Just wondering if others are having the same experience I am. If I insert the smart card slow or jiggly, I get a C-1 code denoting a smart card problem however if I put it in smoothly and positively, it works everytime. I have 3 different cards and they all do the same thing. The Remstar is new and the contacts on the cards etc are all clean.
Thanks!

Occasionally (but not very often). That's why I try to be careful when inserting the card in both devices.

I would say occasionlly also...it's not like it's an every time event and now that I have some good data and the settings where I want them, I will probably only download weekly from now on...Thanks!!!

Malibu, I recently returned a Remstar Auto for intermittent Smart Card C-1 errors. It was like that from day 1, and I more or less had decided to live with it. I'd just reinsert the card or pull it out slightly until the lights stopped flashing. I changed my mind though, when it failed to record at all one night, even though there was no C-1 error. At that point, since I was still within the 30 day window, and knew I could reverse the charge on my credit card, I exchanged the machine for another new one. (Like yours, mine wasn't a card problem, as I had another card and a different machine that worked just fine.) The new Remstar Auto and card work just fine - haven't seen the aggravating C-1 error since sending my first Remstar Auto back.

Regards,
Bill

PS: I never have any problems with the Infineer card reader.

I don't know if this would make a difference but I unplug my machine before removing or inserting the smart card.

Might make a difference.

Tom,

That's not really necessary. If it's not in there right, it'll come up with the errors when you plug the machine back in. When the machine is plugged in, there will be a little beep when you take the card out and put it back in. If there's an error, it'll beep repeatedly.

I've got mine on a power strip so I switch it off when I'm not using it.

Tom,

And, another downside to that is the (motherboard) clock battery is being drawn down when not plugged in.
