Neighbor's Dog

Now, that is damn funny! Does the neighbor's dog look like one of these?

You know, I've heard it said that owners look like their dogs, but this picture certainly puts a new twist on things...

My dw almost had a conniption when she saw me taking the boom box from the lanai. She was talking to her also-controlling sister on the phone when she exclaimed, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?". I meekly responde, "Just experimenting." Drives me f------ crazy. I needed the boom box to play the MP3 of the white noise I recorded. I've set it in the bedroom with the CD in it. I'll go to bed earlier than she.
Of course, you could always use head phones and have something in your ears AND your nose !

Seriously, I have used white noise for the last 10 years or more, and can't sleep without it. I don't hear anything! I started that when I worked in the hospital at night and I had noisy kids during the day. Those days are gone, but the noise still remains. I used to use a fan, even in winter, but now have an air purifier that makes noise. Don't know how much air it purifies, but I love the noise!

I'm a little farther north in central Indiana, Thoses look like Ky dogs to me!

Now that I think of it, I believe that's three generations of Ky Dogs.

Snoozie, these dogs were actually touted as Tennessee hounds.

Let's put these pictures together to see if we have a fit.

Yep, I'd say so. You still got these dogs, Linda?

Back to white noise

Post by Jerry69 » Thu Feb 02, 2006 7:52 am

This topic has gone to the dogs, so I'll get back to the subject. I recorded a CD with 30 minutes of white noise and retired with the boom box before dw. I told her it would play out before she came to bed. She asked, "It's not going to hum or hiss when the CD plays out is it?" I assured her it wouldn't.

Well, I liked the sound and was so intrigued by it that I stayed awake until it went off. Then, I went to sleep Frankly, I liked the sound and I couldn't hear the mask or CPAP machine. If I hadn't been fretting about the sound running out before I went to sleep, I would have gone to sleep quickly. I didn't because of the novelty. I marveled at how completely the white noise masked the CPAP sounds.

Now, I've got to figure out how to make it personal...with ear buds, I suppose, but I'm concerned that they will be uncomfortable when the side of my face is against the pillow. Maybe a large strap of panty hose leg all the way around my head would secure and pad the ear buds?

White noise -- ear plugs

Post by meister » Thu Feb 02, 2006 9:00 am

Unfortunately, I have found both to be a necessity for staying asleep.
If it is not the neighbors, or the wildlife, or the heating/cooling systems,
it is the kids, or the wife. I need to drown out the mask noise as well
as the PAP noise. Jerry, with a wife like that, why even think of sleeping?

So, I'm not the only one that finds the mask and PAP noise annoying. Funny that it is but white noise is soothing.

I think PAP noise bothers me because it seems to control my breathing, not vice versa. So, I lie there listening to the inhale trying to decide whether to exhale or wait for the machine to decide. Trying to decide if I have inhaled enough, etc., etc. My first post after my first night on CPAP was about 'breathing noises'. I'm soon to be on CPAP 3 months and it still bothers me but not nearly as much as to begin with. Maybe after 6 months I won't notice it?

The dw and I have been married 51 years. I took that picture of her at a Xmas party last year. She looks good. But, do I look happy?

Image

Yeah, I am.

But, wait, maybe I'm not.
