Am I sleeping with the Devil?!
Re: Am I sleeping with the Devil?!
If one looks at this page on our host's site https://www.cpap.com/cpap-user-preference.php and scroll down to Auto machines, you will see how the share of sales is trending for Q 3. Interesting......
Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.

It's all about the money!
I agree with Julie 100% it is ALL about the MONEY!!! I'm just wondering what is Resmed market share on cpap?
it must be huge for them to be able to dictated what other businesses can or can't do with their product ... HMMM

Re: Am I sleeping with the Devil?!
at the end of the day the S9 is only around $100 more than the older PR One on cpap.com.
I think it was March the 16th was the day Resmsed started the internet pricing thing. Prior to that cpap.com were selling the S9 + humidifier + climate hose for just over $700 delivered.

I don't believe this is correct.Uncle_Bob wrote:at the end of the day the S9 is only around $100 more than the older PR One on cpap.com.
CPAP.com lists the PR One at $729. However, just below where the $729 price is listed, is a link: "Get Sales Price"
If you click this link and "chat" with their sales agent you will get:
CPAP.comʼs price for the PR System One Auto with A-Flex with Humidifier is $655.00.
CPAP.comʼs (ResMed's) price for the ResMed S9 Autoset with Humidifier is $1072.00.
So the ResMed costs almost exactly 50% more than the PR One!
PR won't allow a company to publish their discounted price, but they can still discount the product!
Sleep well and prosper!
Re: Am I sleeping with the Devil?!
It's actually closer to 1/3 less than the ResMed.
In May, 2010, I paid cpap.com $720 for the PR1 with humidifier.
I guess those shipping costs from Australia are a killer.

"A" is 50% more than "B" is identical to "B is 33% less than "A"!Amigo wrote:It's actually closer to 1/3 less than the ResMed.
However, thanks for causing me to double-check my calculations. They were in error (don't ask how, but I had compared 972 against 655 which works out to 48.4% more)
But here are the exact calculation:
1072/655 = 1.655 or the ResMed is 65% more than the PR
655/1072 = 0.61 or the PR cost 39% less than the Resmed
Sleep well and prosper!

My hubby is going to get his titration--it's being set up as we speak. yay!
My brother loves his pr m series(what no data?), so we might check out that brand.
Since we are both techies, he'll probably wind up with a better machine than mine,
but for less do-re-mi. . .thank you, guys!
gotta read more reviews. . .
price is not an issue-due to good insurance--I just want him to have the best machine for his therapy.
He goes on Medicare in a couple of years--gotta get him started with the GOOD stuff!

I'm thinking I am more and more thankful that I could not find a DME in my area that carried the S9. I have a Respironics System One, and other than waiting for my software to come in, I am very happy with it!

Re: Am I sleeping with the Devil?!
As an Australian who has previously benefited from purchasing ResMed parts in the US for a quarter of the Au price I have been saddened by the apparent demise of this free trade. I thought contributors to this topic might be interested to see the item below, from the Australian media today.
Sadly I do not expect too much to change. For one, ResMed has been buying out major retail outlets. Our ACCC ( Australian Competition Commission blah) has been less than dedicated to the ideal of competition except where there was political motivation to attack some companies and sectors. Mostly its talk and no action.
Still who knows - maybe you will be buying ResMed equipment from Australia in future. Unless there will be an anti-export restrictions imposed, as both you and us have for other goods. Or maybe you can arrange to have friends in Oz who can buy stuff for you...

ACCC probes ResMed over retail prices

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has investigated ResMed Inc Ltd over claims the medical equipment manufacturer engaged in resale price maintenance.
ResMed is accused of allegedly pressuring retailers into selling its products at specific prices, by threatening to withdraw supply unless those products were advertised at a price chosen by the company.
The watchdog has ordered ResMed to write to the retailers and advise them they are free to sell the products at whatever price they please.
ACCC chairman Graeme Samuel said resale price maintenance occurs in many forms.
"Requiring independent resellers not to advertise below a specified price is one such form," Mr Samuel said.
"Businesses must allow independent distributors of their products the freedom to determine the prices at which they both advertise and sell. Ultimately, it is the consumer who benefits from such freedom in the market."
As part of the probe, ResMed will begin a review of its trade practices polices.
The company posted a net profit of $US190.1 million ($A207.8 million) for the 12 months to June 30, compared to $US146 million in the previous comparative period.
