Aussie Heated Hose

Post by DannyPh » Sat May 08, 2010 5:34 pm

I am thinking about getting the Aussie Heated Hose. If I run my HH higher than a setting of one I get Rainout but on the setting of One I have Congestion in the Mornings whereas if I set the HH on Two or three I have no congestion--Just Rainout Problems. From everything I have read about the Aussie Heated Hose it will eliminate most of the rainout Problems. I need the Humidity but not the Rainout Issues. Any Aussie heated Hose user Please advise me as to how you like the Aussie Heated Hose before I purchase one ? Thank you

The Aussie Heated Hose (or Sleepzone hose) works great. A few points to remember:

- I use an Aussie hose and consider it (or similar rainout control) to be an essential element of my xpap system.
- The Aussie heated hose works great for reducing, or even eliminating rainout from condensation that occurs in the hose.
- it won't prevent rainout that occurs in your mask. This may or may not be a significant problem for you.
- the heated hose will increase the temperature of the air in the hose. You may or may not like the warm air. To combat this, it is possible to run the heated hose at a reduced voltage (9 volts works great). This produces air temp that is lower, but also reduces the effectiveness in combating rainout. You'll need to find the balance (air temp vs rainout control) that works for you.
- you will need to unplug the hose each morning, and plug it in again each night. Some on this board use a light timer to do this automatically.
- some on this board use reptile heaters (search for reptile heater) instead of an Aussie hose. Reptile heaters are much cheaper. From what I've read, they work just as well. Since they operate on 120 vac, they provide the option of use with a light dimmer to provide infinitely variable temperature settings.
I'm workin' on it.

I absolutely love mine. Before, if I had my setting about 1.5, I would get rainout. Now, I'm at a comfortable 3 and absolutely no rainout. Well worth the money in my opinion!!

It's made a huge difference for me.
Nonetheless, I still do get some rainout at times --- probably cause I keep the temperature lower than the average person when I sleep. So it ain't perfect, but it's a huge help.

Hi DannyPh, I wouldn't go without my Sleepzone heated hose as it allows me to run at higher humidity without the incidence of rainout. Handy also because it ships with an optional plastic elbow to attach the machine end of the hose to allow easy removal of the hose from the machine. Good luck with it. Cheers,

Like the others, I use it and wouldn't be without it. Who wants water up their nose? If you have the money, get it, If you are short on cash, there are some home-made solutions that probably work just as well for under $35.

Another vote for the Aussie Heated Hose.
Love it, could not have managed therapy without it.

Been using the Aussie heated hose ("heated cpap tube") from sleepzone.com.au for years. Love it.

For new readers, here are a bunch (well, a TON... LOL!!) of discussions about the Aussie heated hose and a cheaper way (Repti heat cable) to control rainout the same way:
