Happy Hanukkah, dear friends -- I'm fine - but had a very busy spot back there, and cpaptalk becomes so engrossing sometimes.
BB, that song you chose is one I heard in the "Chanukah /Christmas party" at school, when I was 8 in Pittsburgh, still stumbling on the differences between languages, religions and cultures - 2 years afterwards I was back home in Israel -- but I remember some of the words to this very day. "Dreidl", by the way, comes from the Yiddish "drei" -- to turn, so it's literally a "turner", or "sevivon" in Hebrew.
I was oohing and ahhing at my 10 year old nephew's dreidl tricks at a family meeting, yesterday. One of 8 nights of celebration, RG.
Dori, traditionally the Hanukkah candles are lit in windows, and during Hanukkah, you can walk in some of Jerusalem's neighborhoods and see the candles winking at you from many windows. Its winter time -- and the weather alternates between rainy days and sunny ones. By now summers dust has been washed away (no rain in summer here) and tree and shrubs have a fresh green color. I have a picture I took of my Hannuka candles against a rainy window -- will dig it up and post it.
I missed you too, Den and jeff - it's the caring and friendship on this forum that are truly priceless.
-SWS, speaking of indecision: (huh? you changed you avatar as I was composing!) there was a great debate between the sages: Should we light Hannuka candles starting with 8 (its an 8 day holiday) and decrease by one each day, or should we start with on, adding one... (we start with one). You are - as ever - much too kind in the way you present me.
Happy holiday celebrations to all -- and Amen to the wishes for peace.
O.
And now here is my secret, a very simple secret; it is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye.
