True... I wish I had an answer. Fear and anxiety won't help what cannot be changed. If possible, try not to worry.
I'm pretty sure in order to stop mass rioting, they're going to have to institute Universal Basic Income (UBI).

Who will be able to do that ? States are already talking about bankruptcy. Can the feds be that far behind ?

I had one professor in college who said "For every large-scale change we make to our landscape/ecosystem, a social cost is exacted." That was fifteen years ago. We're seeing that play out now.

States and towns are going to have to rethink what it means to be part of America. In this next decade the "traditional" banking methods are not going to work. Traditional business methods are going to have to be re-invented to work with the new normal. We just barely dodged SARS and MERS. Seriously... They caught each of them before they went global. We were so... totally... lucky.

There's African Swine flu raging through China and savaging their pork industry -- right now. There's Bird Flu throughout Asia, Europe and now apparently the US, taking a toll on the poultry Industry -- right now. (Not hurting humans directly, but taking a toll on our agribusiness.) This is not a coincidence.

The widespread movement of humans globally has changed the vectorization of microflora and microfauna around the world. Frogs in South America are dying because people from other continents bring fungi on their shoes that kill those frogs merely because they visit deep into the forests as tourists. Norovirus on just about every cruise ship... (I wouldn't step on board a cruise ship unless my life actually depended on it.) We're not even conscious of the effect we're having on our world.

Further, that vectorization of illness is exacerbated by climate change -- an even bigger threat to our continued existence than banking or business because it involves keeping the planet cool enough for life to thrive. This will not be the only pandemic. It will happen again. It may be milder or worse next time. We've merely experienced a hint of what could have happened and we're not even halfway through this pandemic. Class-four airborne (R0=>5) pandemic? We'd be holed up in total survival mode for years. Hopefully, we'll actually have all the kinks worked out by the next time something like this happens again. This is a wake up call for every nation, every citizen. We aren't savages. We could actually use science to work in coordination with our ecosystems, reducing the social costs. We will figure this out. The key is to pay attention to what the scientists have to say when they warn us something is about to happen...

Now about that climate change thing in ten years...

Are we humans the solution or the problem, could our problems be caused by too many humans on the Earth. If we weren't breeding like Rats, thinking we had to go everywhere and see everything as fast as we can, everyone trying to have everything, more, more, now!

Humans are the problem. It can be solved in many ways, Population control, (Doesn't seem to work in China very well) or anywhere else so far. War, costly and messy, or we can set back and wait for Nature to sort it out, in time it will....

Population control, would seem to be the best solution, except the population has already exceeded critical mass. It looks like the correction may require all the above.... Jim

Maybe Science can ask the Dinosaurs what they would do!
