How does ramping work?

For example, 4-20 means it will be at 20 for sure or will it kinda waver between 4-20 after falling asleep? I saw a vid on myair resmed saying that it detects stable breathing pattern as falling asleep, then ramps, but i wasnt sure if it goes to max.

I have been consistently taking the mask off about 50min-1hr (3x now) so im curious if that means pressure is to ohigh and bothering me, if it indeed ramps max

The min and max pressure set has nothing at all to do with ramp.

Do you know for sure that your pressure settings are 4-20? Your set pressures will show on your screen when you turn on your machine. 4-20 are the factory default settings. If your settings are really 4-20 , ramps wont be necessary.

Terming increasing treatment pressure as "ramping up" can lead to confusion. Yes, the pressure will increase as determined by breathing indicators when set in a range. The confusion comes in because there is a specific "Ramp" feature on most machines, with separate settings from the treatment pressure settings. This optional comfort feature allows one who finds their therapeutic pressure a bit much starting off to ease up to their therapeutic pressure. As was already indicated, anyone with a range of 4-20 has no need for the separate Ramp feature as their pressure is already starting off low. The pressure will only go as high as needed. Do check your data so that you can make decisions based on facts rather than guesses (yours or ours). You are thinking the machine reaching a high pressure is disrupting your sleep. Could be when you get into deeper sleep or REM your machine is unable to address impending events fast enough if your needed pressure is a lot higher than your starting pressure. The pressure increases incrementally over set time frames, so it's best to have the lower end of the pressure range up pretty close to where you expect it to need to go based on history. This shortens the time it takes to reach a therapeutic pressure. Again, your data is your friend.

i have the data on the sd card inserted in and i check the myair every day, what should i draw from it?

MyAir is a terrible diagnostic too.

We use OSCAR (which has replaced SleepyHead) and import the data from the SD Card.

Just get rid of MyAir--it is a complete waste of time.
Everything I need is available on the on-screen sleep report.

I've never seen MyAir but people who have say it doesn't give you nearly as much information as Oscar. If you notice some of the other threads where Oscar/Sleepyhead charts have been posted, there's lots of detail that those who know this stuff inside and out can use and be very helpful in getting one's therapy optimized. Without these details there's more guesswork, and who has time for that when you're trying to feel better sooner rather than later, right?

It doesn't even give you as much data as the Oscar *SUMMARY* page.

This is what you get from my air. Just kind of a "rah rah you've got this" summary it doesn't show you the type of events or anything.

While you are at it get your clinician manual for your machine.
You will then be ready to ask many more informed questions.
