Marks on face from Swift Mirage

Post by justdan » Wed Oct 18, 2006 7:27 am

Hello! I have just spent my first night on a CPAP machine with the Swift Mirage nasal pillows mask and have had amazing success sleeping last night. I feel well rested and am starting to remember what it was like as a kid to have a full night's sleep. Very excited!

The only problem is, I have a big indention and red stripes on my face now where the mask was. I expected it to go away, but it has been 1.5 hours and I now have it at work. It is a bit embarrassing. It's noticable.

I can't be the only one that experiences this (I'm relatively sure I'm human), and I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on how to minimize the time it takes for this to go away faster? (I assume it will go away in a few hours at the most still).

Great forum, too! Beautiful design.

Keep your straps loose and use a strap cover like Pad-a-Cheek. The person who makes those is an active member of this forum and uses her talents with material to benefit CPAP users - padacheek.com. Of course you can make your own or come up with a new design but a light padding sure helps..

You need PAD-A-CHEEKS! They are made by a forum member. You can PM padacheek, or go to her web site, http://www.padacheek.com for pictures and prices. PACs will keep you from getting those marks and make the headgear more comfortable.
Glad to hear that aside from marks you had a good first night.

Those Pad-A-Cheeks are COOL! I'm ordering one right now -- thank you so much!

PS: I'm having a problem today as a result of my treatment. With all this extra energy, I'm having problem shutting-up when I talk to people. I can't believe how different I feel after just one day!

Thanks guys!!!

hI, IF ITS NOT TOO LATE FOR YOU TO GET TO THE MART THAT BEGINS WITH W BEFORRE THEY CLOSE YOU CAN GET IMMEDIATE HELP UNTIL YOUR PADACHEEKS ARRIVE. THEY, AND DOUBTLESS OTHER PHARMACIES , HAVE FOAM STRIPS TO PROTECT YOUR TOES PROBABLY ABOUT $3, THEY ARE SEVERAL INCHES LONG AND WILL FIT OVER THE SIDE STRAPS OF YOUR MASK, PROBABLY WITHOUT TAKING THE MASK APART AS THEY LOOK AS IF THEY HAVE A JOIN IN THEM THaT MAY JUST PULL or slit them open.
ii USED THEM ON MY SWIFT AND THEY do HELP. ok, on your bike to the store.

I usually use the swift and love it, by the way, and I use the pad a cheeks - they are really great - no marks
I sometimes have to use my old nemesis, the ultra mirage full face mask when I have too much sinus pain - like last night - and had a lovely outline of the mask embedded on my face for about 3 hours today - ugh
good luck - and I know what you mean - after my sleep study having 6 hours of cpap, I felt like I was on drugs the next day, talking up a storm

Thanks guys! Until the pad-a-cheeks arrive, I just used a folded kleenex, which also did the trick. Not as elegant as the pad-a-cheeks method, but no marks

I've been using the Pad-a-Cheeks for a bit and I love them. I still get some marking on my face if I forget to pull them back up from the folds and a line from the edge still, but that is unavoidable. It is far more comfortable and the marking is much less.

Great product!
