Post by JuJu » Wed Sep 13, 2006 5:55 pm

Anyone using a heated hose?
How is it for you?
I got a new mask and I have rain out BAD.
Is there just one site to purchase this from?

I'm one of the many supporters of the heated hose here!
Rainout is a bad memory for me now! I think that there is a site in the US that sells them now. But i have bought several from the Australia site and have been very happy with their service! Great people to work with !!!

I just ordered mine today! I don't have rainout yet (colder weather is coming) but I don't like the cold air blowing up my nose. Makes my whole body cold.

Cover

Post by birdshell » Wed Sep 13, 2006 6:26 pm

Have you considered a fleece hose cover?

Several people on the forum make them, and they do help. Maybe even in conjunction with the Aussie heated hose.

You are keeping your machine and humidifier on the floor, or at least lower than your bed, one hopes! Turning down the humidity may help, too--forgive me if you have already done these things, but they may help another.

I made a fleece cover and that's probably why I don't have rainout. But the air is still too cold on (up) my nose.

Water in hose during titration in hospital

Post by arthuranxious » Wed Sep 13, 2006 8:17 pm

Had my first ever titration study last night and first ever experience with CPAP, at 5 in the morning I lay awake when suddenly began hearing the most terrible rattling Loud as could be, but the room full of techs "monitoring" couldn't hear it... I sat up, found I couldn't really talk with CPAP running, mouth wouldn't open. And the tech said "Its just water in the tube," without bothering to gradually lower pressure and restart it. he pulled the tyube open shook it out over the floor... and ordered me back to sleep.
Could it have been that he made the room so cold that the humidifer's warm mist chilled into water?

My husband is still in the trial phase with his DME supplier. We're in Canada, so he paid a deposit, and has extended his two month trial for another month because it's just not "working". He was switched to a Fisher and Paykel machine at the beginning because, they say, it's the only one with a heated hose, and at the highest humidity setting, he was getting rainout but still had dry nostrils/mouth. On Saturday, they switched him to a different CPAP machine that has the ability to monitor how he's doing, but it doesn't have a heated hose.

CAN a heated hose be used with any machine? He's switched to a different machine, which doesn't accommodate a heated hose, and even with the fleece cover, he's still getting rainout by morning, and of course, come winter, the air will be chillier and more of a chance of more rainout. So we might have to choose between a better CPAP machine without heated hose, or the plain Fisher and Paykel (600 model) WITH the heated hose.

Does Fisher and Paykel make a heated hose model machine that also collects sleep data and isn't just a passive CPAP machine? Can we have everything we want?

Theresa

Thankfully, we don't have to use a specific brand of machine to enjoy the benefits of using a heated hose to prevent rainout.

The Aussie heated hose can be used instead of a regular 6 foot air hose with ANY machine. Can be used with ANY heated humidifier -- integrated humidifier, separate humidifier, whatever.

It's available from the people who invented it:
http://www.sleepzone.com.au
Shipping cost to the U.S. is included in the price when purchased from that store in Australia.

There's at least one online store in the U.S. that now carries the Sleepzone heated hose: cpapusa.com

Never really had a problem with rainout until 2 nights ago. Been on xpap since early June. I use the Breeze. I turned over during the night and got a snoutful of water! That night was in the high 50's and I had 3 windows open - one with a fan, so it was cool in the room. My humidifier was on 4.5. I like a cold room and figure this might become a problem this winter. Based on the reviews I've read here, I ordered the heated hose from Australia yesterday. Received notification today that it is shipping tomorrow and I could expect it in 10 days. The cost was $119 including the shipping. Good communications! Hope it works!

Thank you all for the replies....
I am inquiring with DME to ordering a heated hose.

I can't stand this rain out. Never had this problem before.
I do have a hose cover and tried all the rest.

I love my heated hose! I tried to used the fleece cover first, and it is now residing in a drawer. I no longer have any problems with rainout since getting my heated hose in July 2005.

I will be surprised if the DME will order the hose for you and even more surprised if your insurance will cover it. Doesn't hurt to ask though!

Best of luck,
Teri

My insurance needed a script written for it and they said it would be covered.

Let you know how it goes.

My husband had tried Fisher and Paykel's straight CPAP with a built-in heated hose (worked great, but didn't collect any data), but I'm wondering, do Fisher and Paykel make an AutoPAP with a heated hose?
