Not sure yet I've done the right thing. I had got used to the constant air flow (set at 12) from the "brick" but handed that machine back the other day after buying a used Auto set (supposedly only one year old but more like 2 years with over 4,000 hours use - always the trap when buying used, but it was a good price).
The Auto set looks a much more sophisticated answer to sleep apnea by only upping the air pressure (set to 20 on this machine) when needed. But the problem with that is the increased air pressure disturbs me and my partner when it happens. The seal with the mask might be fine for the background 4 setting but not good enough to take a sudden burst of up to 20 and I guess that is what wakes me.
I'm yet to download the firmware and investigate changing settings but am not sure what would be best anyway.
Maybe I'll get used to it but am interested to hear the responses of other Auto set users.
TIA
John

ResMed Escape ditched in favour of Auto set

Additional Comments: I abandoned an ESCAPE S9 (on hire) for the much better used S9 AUTOSET - recommended |
Do not deride the idiots of this world as they make the rest of us look so much better
BUT, avoid being an idiot yourself and PERSIST WITH CPAP.

if you're used to 12, then 4 is wayyy too low for you.Tassie Devil wrote:air flow (set at 12)... The seal with the mask might be fine for the background 4 setting but not good enough to take a sudden burst of up to 20 and I guess that is what wakes me.
hold down the setup button and knob to get into the settings menu, and set the minimum pressure to 11, and adjust your mask to that.
download sleepyhead software and evaluate your progress so yo can fine tune the pressures to give you the best result.
the autoset does not produce a sudden burst, at the fastest, it takes minutes to to up to high pressure, if there are events that happen.
I'd suggest no ramp, min 11, max 16, see what happens on your charts.
best of luck!

You can always set it to operate at a single pressure (CPAP mode). And, that's actually what I'd suggest at first so you can compare how good your therapy was with your "brick".Tassie Devil wrote:Not sure yet I've done the right thing. I think a range of 4 to 20 is too wide. Try a smaller range. Don't let the machine swing so much.
I was prescribed a Resmed S9 Elite with a fixed pressure of 12. Worked pretty good, most nights I had AHI of 1.x .
Later I bought a used S9 Autoset and tested a range of 12 to 15.
Using Sleepyhead, I saw the machine spent most of the night above 12, so I set the range to 13 to 15 and tested some more.
I repeated this a few times until I settled on a range of 14 to 15.
Now my nightly pressure chart has smooth waves, not spikey, and my AHI most nights is 0.x .

the minimum pressure should be set close to, or at, the pressure to take care of the majority of your events, and then let auto handle the other times, such as rem sleep or if you happen to turn on your back.

Sleepyhead along with an Autoset is worth more than a room full of sleep doctors:

unlike a lot (many? most?) sleep doctors, sleepyhead actually pays attention to what's been happening to you as you sleepdcheddar wrote:Sleepyhead along with an Autoset is worth more than a room full of sleep doctors:
