How to Convert S9 Elite settings to S9 Autoset

Hi,
I am new here. Was diagnosed with sleep apnea 1 yr ago. Doctors set up a ResMed S9 Elite and it has been working fine. I recently purchased a ResMed S9 AutoSet and would
like to transfer the settings from my elite to my autoset. The settings appear to be different.

Can anybody help me set this autoset up.

No problem. If you wish to stay in fixed-pressure cpap mode, set the max and min pressures on the Autoset to the pressure your Elite is set at. Let us know what else you're not sure about. And clinician manuals can be obtained by using the link in my signature box.

I think your settings would depend on what results you have been having and if your are wanting to continue. If so set it like kaiasgram said in auto mode but with the maximum and minimum pressures the same as you were running. If you were wanting to try the auto mode and allow the machine pressures to vary, try 2 below and 2 above your cpap pressure. If you are going to change your pressures you need to monitor your results with software to determine the effectiveness.

My elite was setup in non fixed pressure (BiPap) I think
Settings are
IPAP 13.0
EPAP 9.0
TI Max 2.0
TI Min .3
Trigger Medium
Cycle Medium
Max Ramp 45 Min
Start EPAP 5.0

You are right those look like Bilevel settings and I believe the elite is only fixed cpap pressure. Can you look for the model number of your machine and any names on the machine. The Autoset does not do bilevel except in a limited capacity with the EPR setting. So lets be sure what machines we are talking about.

Those settings appear to be bilevel mode settings and the S9 Elite is not a bilevel device.

The AutoSet is not a bilevel device so it won't have the bilevel settings available.

Settings are
IPAP 13.0
EPAP 9.0

Those are bilevel settings and they could not have come from an Elite....

With the Autoset you can get close to these settings by using EPR set to 3...that's the closest you can get to the 13 IPAP and 9 EPAP... the difference is 4 cm and with EPR the most you can get is 3 cm when set to EPR of 3.

So cpap mode on the AutoSet with EPR set to 3 would give you 13 IPAP and 10 EPAP or if you wanted to keep 9 EPAP then IPAP set to 12.

If you want make use of the auto adjusting mode...then set max IPAP to something like 16 or so but leave EPAP at either 9 or 10 (depending on which you want) and if the machine needs to raise either EPAP or IPAP it will push or pull the other up with the change.

OhOh You're right. What I thought was an Elite is actually a VPAP auto.
Hope I didn't waste my money on the Autoset

Ooops.

The AutoSet won't quite do the VPAP Auto settings but it might be close enough to get you by.
There are 2 main differences/limitations...the AutoSet won't go over 20 cm IPAP but you may not even need more than that and the EPR is limited to 3 maximum...you have been using PS ...pressure support...or the difference between EPAP and IPAP of 4 cm..so you might be able to get by with 3 PS.
Those Ti minimum and maximum settings may not be a critical issue that you won't have that adjustable feature with the AutoSet.

What were you planning to do with the AutoSet? Backup or travel? Fulltime?

I planned on using it for backup and maybe travel I have changed the epap to 3 and the pressure to 16. I have resmed software. So i guess i can monitor it. just not sure what to look for

Unless you have some sort of special circumstance or issue going on the slight change from 4 to 3 PS probably won't make any huge difference it things. It might be a tiny bit uncomfortable initially since your body is used to 4 PS. I can tell a slight difference between 3 and 4 PS but it really wasn't a huge deal breaker difference.

I don't know about the difference in algorithms between the VPAP and the Auto but I don't think that there is any huge difference in that either. Watch your AHI and if it is stable and close to what it was with the VPAP and you are comfortable...I think it will work out just fine.
It's one of the nice things about ResMed's EPR...it's mainly Pressure Support that is just limited to 3 cm while with the VPAPs you have a wider range of PS settings available.
I once tried CPAP mode with EPR of 3 and Bilevel fixed mode with PS set to 3 and everything else the same...I couldn't tell any difference at all.
