Mask affecting eyes

Post by cmiers2 » Sat Apr 04, 2015 1:04 pm

Is there a full face mask that does not gouge the eyes and affect the surrounding area? I use Quattro Air FFM and the plastic frame that fits over the nose gouges into my eyes and the entire eye area. As a result my eyes feel uncomfortable most of the following day and I have huge puffy bags hanging down to my cheek. Could the humidity setting (5) have anything to do with the puffiness? From reading about the Simplus Mask I gather that it might solve my problem. Any suggestions? As much as I would hate to I'm about ready to give up on this therapy unless I can do it more comfortably.

If the mask is "gouging" your eyes it's up too high...maybe it's the wrong size or you are fitting it wrong.

I'm fairly new to all of this and am merely asking assistance in solving my problem. Maybe you can tell me how to keep the mask from sliding back up after I fit it as low as it can go.

Here is a sizing guide that you can print off to see if you need a smaller size. https://5faacd0c97cf0d23c6dc-064f3cd61b ... mplate.pdf
And here is a link to a site with suggestions for fit. https://maskarrayed.wordpress.com/tamin ... e-quattro/
Finding the right mask is important and sometimes takes a few tries. Is a full face mask required or can you breath through your nose?

Thanks for the links OkyDoky. I'll check them out. The DME measured and first gave me a large size, which was too big. Changed to a Med, which is what I use now. Small would not work at all. I can breath through my nose most of the time but sometimes my mouth cracks a little and it causes leaks, etc., so a nasal mask didn't work. I actually wonder if my eyes are set too close together which might cause a problem. Do you know anything about the Simplus FFM?

I don't have any personal experience with a FF mask. Maybe others will answer you on the Simplus. My husband uses the Airfit F10 with good leak control but every face is different and without trying the mask it is hard to tell if it will work. Check out the masks at Cpap.com some come with free return insurance and I believe on some that don't have free insurance you may be able to buy the return insurance. just talk with them about it.

An additional thought is, if you want to continue with this mask you could try liners. They might make the mask more stable and not move up after you have it fitted. I have used both Remzzz https://www.cpap.com/productpage/remzzz ... iners.html and PadaCheek http://www.padacheek.com/index.html I like PadaCheek best because they fit on the mask and stay until you need to wash and reuse.

I've checked on liners and plan to get the PadaCheek when I decide for sure what mask I want to use. I'm impressed with what I've read about the Simplus and will probably try it. Thanks for your interest.
