Moving from CPAP to Auto PAP
I have to ask a quick question. I have a Resmed S9 at the moment. It's CPAP. The sleep specialist has now determined that I have a pressure rating of 15 instead of my original 7 pressure. However, they would like to put me on an APAP machine with a range of 7 to 15. Will the APAP machine be a new machine or a software upgrade to my current CPAP machine? Wondering as I haven't paid off the CPAP machine yet.
Re: Moving from CPAP to Auto PAP
It'l have to be a new machine, unless... your present one IS actually an Apap set in Cpap mode (Apaps can do that, but Cpaps cannot 'become' Apaps). What your insce does about I can't say. But I'd check carefully to be sure you don't already have that Apap and that it just hasn't been set to Apap - MDs aren't always the brightest when it comes to knowing equipment.

Look on the bottom of your machine and tell us the model number.cpap_to_apap wrote:Will the APAP machine be a new machine or a software upgrade to my current CPAP machine? Wondering as I haven't paid off the CPAP machine yet
(Make sure to empty the tank before you turn the machine over.)
Re: Moving from CPAP to Auto PAP
Your S9 machine will have the model name printed on the front/top.

Re: Moving from CPAP to Auto PAP
Well, the DME company called last Friday. I have an appointment today to get the machine upgraded to Auto. The nice lady on the phone said to bring your machine and power cord. Hopefully this is quick. (Hmm, she didn't say to bring in your hose or mask. I guess they won't be checking the pressure before I go.)
Re: Moving from CPAP to Auto PAP
Make sure they don't give you a machine with 'Plus" in the name because it doesn't record data apart from compliance. We call that a brick.
Re: Moving from CPAP to Auto PAP
They will probably just switch out machines since you are currently using the S9 model and didn't tell you to bring the humidifier (I am assuming you are using a humidifier).
Hope they give you the S9 AutoSet and not the S9 Escape Auto because the Escape Auto has extremely limited efficacy data available (pretty much AHI only and what I call a half assed brick) and the AutoSet is a full efficacy data machine.

Well, that was a boring visit. All they did was turn on the auto feature and adjust the pressure to a range of 7 to 15. The respiratory therapist told me how it works. It will start off at a 7. If I have an apnea during the night it will increase the pressure automatically. When it senses the apnea is over with it will decrease the pressure automatically. No new machine. I guess I'll see how it goes tonight.

Well crap...that means you had auto/apap mode always available on your machine and you didn't know it.cpap_to_apap wrote:Well, that was a boring visit. What is the model name on the blower unit?
Does it say "AutoSet" or "Escape Auto" up by the on/off button?
You might want to read up on what else your machine might have that you didn't know about.
