Translating Respironics ASV to Resmed AirCurve 10 ASV?

Post by Dave007 » Sat Mar 07, 2015 5:03 pm

I upgraded from a Respironics ASV machine to the new Resmed AirCurve 10 ASV machine and I don't think the pressure settings are correct on the new machine. Can someone please double check these numbers so I can ask my technician? It looks like the EPAP setting of 5.0 should be increased to 9.5 and the Max PS should be increased from 15 to 15.5

Respironics ASV machine had the follow settings:
Max pressure 25.0
EPAP Min 9.5
EPAP Max 15.5
PS min 4.0
PS Max 15.5

Resmed AirCurve 10 ASV has following settings:
EPAP 5.0
Min PS 4.0
Max PS 15

Also there is a setting if I want "ASV" mode or "Auto ASV mode" anybody know the difference?

Dave, you say the settings are:
Dave007 wrote: Respironics ASV machine had the follow settings:

EPAP Min 9.5
EPAP Max 15.5
PS min 4.0
PS Max 15.5

Resmed AirCurve 10 ASV has following settings:
EPAP 5.0
Min PS 4.0
Max PS 15
The current settings on the PR ASV allowed the EPAP to vary from 9.5 to 15.5 cm; I believe the settings on the AirCurve 10 keep the EPAP at a fixed 5 cm and only vary the PS amount. In other words, the IPAP pressure on the AirCurve ranges from 9cm to 20cm, and the EPAP stays at 5cm regardless of what's going on.
Also there is a setting if I want "ASV" mode or "Auto ASV mode" anybody know the difference?
I believe that the Auto ASV mode on the AirCurve will allow you to set values for min EPAP and a max EPAP, and then the EPAP will vary according to what kinds of things the machine is detecting. In ASV mode, I believe the EPAP is a fixed value and does not vary.

My guess is that to most closely mimic your PR's settings, you'll need to be in Auto ASV mode with min EPAP set to 9.5, max EPAP set to 15.5, min PS = 4.0, and max PS = 15.5. You also need to look for a max pressure setting or a max IPAP setting and set that to 25.0; otherwise the the IPAP pressure might get as high as 31=15.5 + 15.5 = max EPAP + max PS

Good luck

I mostly echo robysue's advice, except with very minor corrections.

you need to set

autoasv mode (that allows the epap to vary)
min EPAP 9.4 or 9.6 (resmed does .2 instead of .5 cm adjustments)
max EPAP 15.4 or 15.6
minPS 4.0
maxPS 15.6

the max pressure of the machine is 25, so you don't have to worry about that.

I'm noticing on the AirCurve 10 there is no "Max EPAP" setting to adjust. There is a "max PS" setting... I assume the machine calculates Max EPAP somehow on its own?

Sounds like it might be in regular ASV mode and not Auto ASV mode.

what pugsy said, in asv mode, there's an EPAP setting, because epap is constant.

in asvauto mode, there is a minepap and maxepap setting.

Yes its in ASV mode. I tried Auto ASV mode before it kept blowing my cheeks up with air and couldn't fall asleep. I'm going to try auto ASV mode again but this time set it on a timed 20 minute ramp so it will kick on fully when I'm sleep.
