Dry mouth
Dry mouth
I have finally started sleeping well and feeling better during the day. But.....last night I was awakened with the driest mouth I've ever experienced. Got up at 1:30AM, washed out my mouth, went back to bed but was awakened every two hours after that with the same problem. I finally tossed the mask at 5AM and slept normally without it for a couple more hours. What can I do to relieve the dry mouth?

Re: Dry mouth
Like your mask rig. I use the same. Try increasing humidifier settings. Use distilled water. When I have this happen, I am usually dehydrated. Hydrate throughout the day and in to the early evening. Too much water just before bedtime may cause frequent visits to the throne.
The dry mouth is caused by mouth breathing. Some forum members have used moisturizers. They may chime in with suggestions.

Re: Dry mouth
Thanks coolbranch. I do use distilled water but will turn the humidifier up tonight. Will also try doing better when it comes to drinking water. I sometimes get a bit neglectful in doing that.

Re: Dry mouth
Visually inspect the water level in the humidifier tank. My ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet has a failure mode where the humidifier doesn't work. I wake up in the middle of the night with massive cotton-mouth. The water level in the tank is the same as when I filled it. If I power cycle the machine as I'm filling the humidifier tank before going to sleep, I've never seen the issue. I now do the power cycle voodoo incantation every night and don't seem to have any machine issues.

Re: Dry mouth
Darn. I ordered this very machine yesterday and will receive tomorrow. I hope I don't see this humidifier problem. By power cycle I assume you unplug and plug back in the machine each time you use it?

I own an S9 AutoSet I use as a spare that is bomb-proof. I changed employers/insurance in January 1 and my old DME wouldn't take my new insurance. I bought a new S9 so I wasn't caught in the gap without a machine. The A10 is a rental from my new DME I've had since February 9th. I have great health insurance that pays 100% for durable medical equipment so I'm putting all my hours on this new machine.
On the A10, I've seen three humidifier/ClimateLine hose-related issues in the first week or so of operation. One is a fault code I've seen twice but didn't write down. The second is the humidifier not working with no indication that there was an issue; just waking with cotton mouth and observing that the tank level hadn't changed. The final was the machine complaining about the ClimateLine hose. Rebooting the machine every night seems to make all three issues go away. At some point, I'll stop rebooting every night to see if software updates have fixed the problems. The ResMed AirSense 10 is a relatively new machine so it's not surprising that it has some software stability issues. I'd rather rack up hours on this machine for now and worry about a warranty return later.

Re: Dry mouth
Geoff......I checked the water level as you suggested and it is down a normal amount. I'll keep watch to see if I experience the problems you have. Thanks for the response.

Re: Dry mouth
Thanks Geoff. Maybe I will get lucky with my new machine. Living in SE Alabama, humidity is the norm.

Re: Dry mouth
When I kept receiving the Climate Air Hose message, even tho I rebooted each time, my DME had me return it and the gave me a new one. No problems since.

Re: Dry mouth
You don't mention your pressure setting or pressure range. From what I've experienced using the auto-titration mode, as the pressure increases, so does my need for additional humidity. The low humidity presents itself, at least for me, as a dry mouth and increased mouth breathing. These problems cease when I increase the humidity.cmiers2 wrote:Geoff......I checked the water level as you suggested and it is down a normal amount. Take care!
