Chin-up Strips

Post by GlowGal » Sun Mar 15, 2015 10:57 pm

Hi all.

Has anyone tried these as an alternative to a chin strap or taping their mouth shut?

They look interesting but don't know how well they work.

Scroll down. It says the white ones can be used with a mustache and short beard, and to remove them with water.

I use them. For me, they help me keep my mouth from hanging way open, they do help keep it closed, but I am apparently such a determined mouth breather that I also need a piece of tape to keep my lips together, otherwise I get too much leakage. So the combination of the chin-up strip and the tape replace the chinstrap which I used to use and no longer need. I have found that I can use the chin-up strips more than once. I peel it off carefully and stick it back on the paper it came mounted on. I have used them 3 times, have not experimented with more, but I am thinking it could be possible. Even just using each one twice cuts the price in half (obviously!). You can get a variety pack which has some of each of the 3 types/shapes and try them all out.

I use them every night and find they work great for keeping my mouth closed and decreasing leaks. If I happen to miss a night my mouth feels like a parched desert and leaks are tripled.

I needed my own custom size, so I cut my own from blue painters tape, using one of these two templates.
I pull my lower lip up like a bulldog, and it works like a charm!

They look interesting but don't know how well they work.
I use another alternative: vertical application of 1" tape from under the nose and to the chin for the same purpose: keep my jaw up from excessive dropping and consequently preventing dry-out mouth. Even with a full-face mask.

I am going to check these out too. But what if I have to yawn or cough. How do you cough with them on? Wouldn't that make you choke if you need to cough? I would like to know before I purchase these. Thank you.

With the vertical tape, you cough or sneeze out of the side of your mouth.
With a chin up strip, you cough, sneeze or even speak up through the center.
Not hard at all. It doesn't make it especially difficult, just awkward.
The ideal tape to use is just sticky enough to hold for a few hours, and may not hold if you sleep late.
