Post by Issac » Mon Jul 31, 2006 5:40 pm

What else can one use ? there must be many other set ups that would fit, right? Whats the best or just better for this mask?

Issac,

It only took about three nights before I replaced the hybrids headgear with the headgear from my HC431.
It was a perfect fit no alterations needed except one snip to get rid of the HC431's quick release cord.
I feel it handled the hybrid much better.
I had one handy, they cost $59.00 new

If you having problems with the velcro not sticking you can buy some velcro at any craft store and sew it on where the straps hit the headgear. I did this on the strap that goes over the top of your head and it worked fine, I would have done the rest but that is when I noticed my HC431 headgear would fit.
You just have to sew on the "fuzzy side" of the velcro the hook side is ok as is.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body totally worn out and screaming,WOO HOO what a ride!

Velcro

Be sure to get the non-sticky, sew-on velcro or the sewing machine needle will not go through well, get gummed up, and probably break (although you were not going to use it anymore once gummed up).

Also, it sometimes is available in fabric stores by the inch. Or, dollar stores have a yard of the sticky backed velcro for a (drumroll please) dollar- -I did not look for the sewn-on type there.

Best wishes--if y'all will perfect the hybrid fixes, maybe it will work for me!

A little WD40 on the needle and it won't get gummed up, it will just slide right through!

The wife is making some aternations for me. she's padding sections of the lower staps and extending the top crown section. The mask overall deserves a two thumbs up. Watching the video the second night made a big difference and the pillows are absolutely leak free if I set them before setting the rest of the mask on my face. Still getting a few leaks at night in the chin area but they don't wake me up and a nudge from the wife quickly corrects it. I toss around a lot and dragging the hose becomes a problem so I've set up an old TV stand by the bed to hang the hose over so it's higher than the bed. Will be making something a little more taylored this weekend. Sounds like a lot of trouble, I know, but I'm getting a good night sleep and not getting up during the night for the first time in years so it's all worth it.

No doubt about it, this has been one mask that watching the enclosed video was crucial for me! (I think all of the others are still in the cases they came in! )

My Hybrid headgear has already disintegrated. The velcro attachment on the lower right strap came apart. I am having a very small hassle with CPAP.COM over returning it and getting a quick replacement.

The headgear on the Hybrid is by far the least impressive, most poorly executed part of the design. I understand (sort of) the reason for the very lightweight (the reason I think) attachment clips but the four attachment velcro strips are not very effective and the top strap is poorly thought out - it could have more velcro as well.

yes after only a few weeks, my headgear is starting to fray and pull apart. Doesn't look like it will hold up for the long haul.

Mary, I wish I knew how to post a photo of my headgear for you. The wife has whipped up one hell of a headstrap and it wore like a champ last night. If I have any early frayed areas or anything that looks like wear the first few weeks, I'm calling the number on my box and demanding a new one. I am sure you can find the manufacturers phone numbers on their website http://www.hybridmask.com.
I just found out that employees where I work will have to share the cost of the insurance come renewal and I cannot go without insurance for my family.I'm reading yesterdays mail with my coffee and no one said anything at work yesterday. Good thing I had such great rest last night because I would be postal over this. What am I going to have to pay? $700.00 ? $1000.00? more? Is it legal to do this?

Yep, it is legal. In most states they can get rid of the health insurance, the dental insurance, the pension, the 401k and you!

My company dropped the pension first, then the health insurance and then new owners came in and fired all the management over age 50 (they kept only one manager who was thirty-eight). So here I am at age 55 trying to find a smaller company who knows the value of us older workers.

Mine is a bad case though. Hopefully your company will continue to pay most of the health insurance.

Good luck.

P.S. Companies need the freedom to set their own benefit policies and wages and hire and fire as they see fit. If companies become heavily regulated in these areas, our economy becomes inefficient and our standard of living will decline. On the other hand, you have the freedom to go to work for a different company if you can find a better deal!
