HELP PLEASE! NG Tubes & Nasal Mask Mod needed
HELP PLEASE! NG Tubes & Nasal Mask Mod needed
My best friend/ex-husband has been hospitalized since Wednesday and cannot sleep because he can't use his nasal CPAP mask due to having one tube coming out of each nostril (one is a small NG tube and one is a regular sized drainage tube). He can not sleep without the CPAP for ANY length of time and the hospital has provided a FFM for him but it's not working well enough for him to sleep. Possibly increasing the pressure could help, which he is looking into. But, I'm here asking if anyone can think of a modification to the nasal mask pillows that would create a seal even with the tubes there. This poor guy has slept less than 4 hours since Wednesday. I was wondering if something like ear plug foam could work...but I'm not really familiar with the equipment and don't know what to suggest for him. I would appreciate any ideas that you may have! Thank you so much.

How is his breathing through the nose with the NG tubes in place? Meaning can he breathe well enough through his nose and not need to open his mouth and breathe to get enough air?
And how long will he need the NG tubes?
Wonder how well the Oracle mask might do?

Thank you for writing. He can breathe normally through his nose. He just can't get a seal with his normal nose mask pillows. He will have the tubes in for at least 24 hours and possibly longer, depending on how well he has healed from surgery (they are checking on that tomorrow).Pugsy wrote:How is his breathing through the nose with the NG tubes in place? I would say a total face mask but not sure you could get it for him in time.

Talk to his DOCTOR. Hospitals can get stuff, but only if the doctor demands it.
I would consider a usable mask to be an emergency in this case.
