Xylimelts for Dry Mouth Overnight?
Anyone use these on a regular basis? Or have you tried them?

I have not but as one who is probably going to have the dry mouth from hell after my septoplasty/turbinate reduction, I will be interested to read about people's experiences. I am leaning towards buying orajel which so many people on this forum have raved about. But I am still interested in hearing more about the xlyimelts.CPAPIST wrote:Anyone use these on a regular basis? Or have you tried them?

My trouble with things like the Oragel and the Xy mints is that, once I am asleep, they end up in my throat, not my mouth, and therefore do not stay in my mouth long enough to make any significant difference in my dry mouth. They won't stay in place after I fall asleep.
Glad others have had success with them though.

Now that I know how to use. You have to put a small amount on the tip of your tongue and work it down in the gum between your lower front teeth and the gum. Then do the same thing for the upper front. Have your mask handy to immediately put on and get in bed.NateS wrote:the Oragel
Be careful not to suck it down before you go to sleep. If you put too much in your gums, it is likely to get siphoned down and not last all night.
Somebody explained this technique in another thread. I don't remember who the member was but thanks to him/her.

I've had good luck with Orajel moisturizing gel. It lasts me all night long when used as directed:

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
Re: Xylimelts for Dry Mouth Overnight?
I have used the xylimelts. I put the lozenge against my cheek as directed and it slowly dissolves during the night. I have still had some of the lozenge left in the morning! IMO they work well.

I do the same thing with sugar free cough drops. They last all night, doing double duty.

Oh, thank you. I just watched the video on their website. Sounds cool. I will order the free sample pack. This sounds more convenient than the Oragel I currently use. I also like that they contain Xylitol for added protection against tooth decay.M'ohms wrote:I have used the xylimelts. Which flavor do you use? I am thinking to order the mint-free since I sometimes have a bit of reflux.
Thanks again!

I'm not sure I'd want to suck a cough drop into my lungs while I'm asleep, either from a cough or a gasping breath or whatever. A visit to the ER is not likely to help with sleep that night.herefishy wrote:I do the same thing with sugar free cough drops. They last all night, doing double duty.

I do use the mint ones. Very pleasant. Last night, I gave one to my 83 year old mother since she has been complaining of dry mouth lately. She was very happy with the results.CPAPIST wrote:Oh, thank you. I just watched the video on their website. Sounds cool. I will order the free sample pack. I've always heard that anything swallowable in the mouth was a bad idea while sleeping. Too much chance of it ending up in your lungs, in your nasal cavity, or other places it wouldn't be appreciated.

I use Biotene gel. It's great stuff:

They also make a saliva replacer, which works well for quick relief when waking up in the morning with dry mouth.

I have not tried. My dentist suggested xylitol gum for dry mouth because of medication. It works well but not useful at night. Thanks for the heads up I will try. Dentist also said dry mouth encourages cavities, I was having trouble with tiny ones but none sine gum.
