Let's clear this NEW vs. OLD REMstar thing up
I've been seeing post after post about all the tizzy over the so called "NEW" REMstar M series prouduct. As if it is revolutionary and supercedes the previous torch bearer...the REMstar Auto with Cflex. The flat out honest answer is NO it isn't. It is newer in that Respironics had felt the pressure from ResMed and others, that came out with smaller travel oriented units, to come out with one of their own. Bear in mind people have easily been traveling with the only other model they had available for years. The previously only model, (the REMstar Auto with Cflex) by the way is the MOST used in Sleep Labs across the U.S. Don't listen to me....make the calls and you'll see for yourself.
With that said, I had a M series with the humidifier for a few months. It was great as all I knew before it was the Invacare boat anchor of a CPAP. When I became unemployed I decided to dump my DME and get my own machine instead of being literally financially "hosed" by them. I knew the Auto M was available from CPAP.COM when I ordered the REMstar Auto with Cflex INSTEAD. I was very surprised (if not shocked) to find that when loaded in the travel bag it wasn't noticably heavier, nor bulkier to carry then the M was. Not to mention the bag was capable (without expansion) of carrying all the accessories easily. (the M needs to be opened up on the top compartment greatly expanding it's girth). I do indeed find it a tad quieter as well. I have no issues with this profile be it more brick like instead of taking up more width in real estate on the table like the M series did.
As I said Respironics just had to come out with a 2nd choice.....it is NOT going to supercede the regular REMstar series, nor will it likely take over it's preference as the most used model in the Sleep Labs......for good reason. IMHO the previous model is a bit more of a "commercial" quality build re: solid. For whatever trips the triggers of hosers out there this is the bottom line. It's not about some "new" or "more up to date" technology. They both possess the SAME technology....just different foot prints........now decide with what facts you can gather........that's about it really.....

Lee, I think some of the "terminology" - (old vs new vs M) is because the M Auto hasn't made it's official debut yet. Therefore, when M auto users list their equipment in profiles, there is no "image" yet. At least as far as I have seen illustrated.
I've seen several members with the M Auto with pictures of the "old" Remstar Auto with cflex listed as their gear.
And to complicate matters even more, there are still some Remstar Autos out there (without cflex). ..
Maybe we should just assign them with numbers 1,2,3, etc.

can we ask HOW LONG exactly have you been on CPAP therapy to become the Respironics Autopap history expert?roadwarrior wrote:I've been seeing post after post about all the tizzy over the so called "NEW" REMstar M series prouduct. get your facts straight dude, sleep labs don't use the Remstar Auto in sleep labs, they use a commercial Synchrony or other machine with direct connect so they can remotely control it from the monitoring console. The previously only model, (the REMstar Auto with Cflex) by the way is the MOST used in Sleep Labs across the U.S. Don't listen to me....make the calls and you'll see for yourself.

Well, for the informed, the M series Auto has been available though CPAP.COM for 3 weeks now. While it may well not have been made "official" those of us who have been into this stuff know it. There have been posts of people buying them for weeks now. As for our selectively unknown guest who asked, I've been on CPAP since March. I am certainly not a spokesperson for Respironics, however I have had the opportunity to chew the fat with one of their road reps, as well as the factory. The information I gave was based not only on their own information but at least half a dozen calls I made in Utah to sleep centers, all of which DO in fact use the REMstar Auto's in their tests. There are a battery of other devices an individual is hooked up to in addition to the xpap machine. Not sure why the unknown fool has to get all excited over this stuff. Must be sleep deprived.

Guest, thank you for pointing that out. As of a couple of days ago, it wasn't listed in cpap.com (according to several of our forum members). However, we've all known for several weeks that a phone call could purchase one - even if it wasn't listed in the product pages.Whatpap wrote:Linda 3032, you wrote: "Lee, I think some of the "terminology" - (old vs new vs M) is because the M Auto hasn't made it's official debut yet."

Thanks for correcting me (yet once again). Nobody is infallible, except perhaps you.

Perhaps it is better.
Are we certain the new M series does not use a new, improved algorithm? Or is better in other components?
I am sure they would not leak this info till the old inventory was gone but it makes me wonder.
I have no info but am only speculating.
