i love my P10 but......
So far I have gone thru 5 different nasal masks and keep returning to the P10 the problem is that it irritates my nostrils is it ok to apply a little lanolin before putting the mask on?

The lanolin is called Lansinoh and it is at the pharmacy in the aisle with the mother and baby products. It's used by nursing mothers and those of us on CPAP.ejvette wrote:So far I have gone thru 5 different nasal masks and keep returning to the P10 the problem is that it irritates my nostrils is it ok to apply a little lanolin before putting the mask on?

Jaycee, it took about three weeks for my nose to stop balking at the P10, and lanolin is the only thing that got me through it. I still apply a light coating each night to keep the chafing away. Also, you may need to fiddle with the headgear for a while to find the sweet spot, not to loose to cause leaks, not too tight to cause friction and nasal irritation.

Agreed about the headgear. Seems that there is a sweet spot where you get no leaks without much tension.RicaLynn wrote:Jaycee, it took about three weeks for my nose to stop balking at the P10, and lanolin is the only thing that got me through it. I also was about three weeks and I was just changing from Sift FX to it.

Re: i love my P10 but......
i was having some irritation with my ffm and was using a lanolin based ointment to calm it down.
my doctor said that water-based creams were better b/c there was no risk of "fat induced pneumonia". apparently the fat or wax based ointments can be aspirated and hurt your lungs....
anyone heard this? what's the community opinion?

How much ointment does your doctor think you are using at one clip? Also, it seems like water-based ointments could be aspirated just as easily (my guess: not very).donewithbeingtired wrote:i was having some irritation with my ffm and was using a lanolin based ointment to calm it down.

The jargon appears to be "lipoid pneumonia." Doesn't seem very common: http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1 ... 0155.x/pdf

Re: i love my P10 but......
when I used it, when getting used to the p10, I only used about a bb sized dab, and then smeared that around both nostrils... there wasn't anything left to aspirate
the only problem with the 'get a tube of lansinoh lanolin' is that now I have a 99.5% full tube, and my nose doesn't hurt anymore
maybe we should have "the great lansinoh exchange' to go along with 'the great pillow exchange'

Fit it loose and let the pillows inflate into your nose. Sometimes, a little warm water warming the pillows up before you put it on will help it settle in and seal correctly.

Re: i love my P10 but......
I'm just under the large pillow size but like them because I don't experience the flow restriction as with the medium pillows. I had problems with the large pillows leaking during the night due to various sleeping positions. I read in various posts about users of other nasal pillows using o-rings to provide support to the mask. I tried using them on the large pillows and it eliminated all leaks. This one trick seems to provide linear support that prevents the pillows from slipping or backing out. If anyone is wondering as to the o-ring sizes I used; I wound up using 2 different per pillow, a 5/8" ID x 3/4" OD(1/8" thick) and a 3/4" ID x 1" OD (1/8" thick). I basically picked them because they were the closest size match out of my assortment I had available and each size didn't work independently. . . and it was 4:00 AM when I decided to try it.
