4 Nights of use...hole in slim-line

Post by CM1 » Tue Feb 24, 2015 6:53 am

Hello all! Was just prescribed a CPAP machine Friday night, so hello from a new user!

As of last night it seems I have some sort of pin-hole leak in the small slim line that goes from the pillows to the main hose connection. (So the hole is not in the main slim-line that goes from the compressor to the mask) The machine recognizes the leak as well, as it has a warning message on the screen saying I have a problem with the hose and need a new one. I'm assuming that even with the hole that the unit compensates for the loss, as I still slept rather decent last night. Is it common for something like this to happen so quickly? Also, can I just cut some strips of electrical tape, or the like, and tightly wrap the webbing of the tubing instead of having to order a new mask set-up?

Thank you all for any insight!

Little patch of duct tape won't hurt anything.

Yes, some tape will usually repair hoses but I am concerned that the hose failed so soon. I have been using the P10 for 13 months now and I am still using the same frame/hose as I started with.
You don't have any pets who may have done something to the hose thinking it was a toy?
If not, you might want to check with your supplier as this sort of thing is uncommon except when our furry friends decides our cpap equipment are nice toys.

After having three or four "ClimateLine Fault, replace your hose" warnings on my Airsense 10 by ResMed, which I could clear by unplugging the machine and plugging it back in, I reported it to my respiratory therapist who then called the DME supplier and ResMed. They said that they have had other similar reports and called it a software fault. They gave me a procedure to try to fix the problem which is basically:

1. unplug the machine
2. remove the hose
3. plug in the machine and allow it to initialize
4. then reattach the hose

That worked for a few days, but it's happened again three times in the last week. It isn't clear to me how that procedure would fix a software (or firmware) fault since it wouldn't change the firmware program, but I performed the procedure several times over a period of days. Maybe there are multiple firmware revisions on different production runs of machines, but it seems to be related to initializing the threshold for detecting a leak in the hose. I will be reporting it again, since they told my RT that they would replace the machine if the procedure did not fix the problem. I've only had my machine since January 12, 2015. By the way, I DO NOT EVEN HAVE a ClimateLine hose. I use a SlimLine, unheated hose just like CM1 who reported the problem above. Both of our machines are also apparently quite new - same production run perhaps? I also have moving air around the mask itself, but that is normal from the exhaust vent. The vent is diffused on the AirfitF10, but was much more noticeable on my Swift Nasal Pillow Mask - don't think you're supposed to ever close off the expiration vents. There is no REAL leak from my hose that i can discern.

Since I have not posted before, I'd like to say that I very much appreciate all of the information that I've gleaned from the generous, sharing people on this website. I'm glad to be able to provide a little in return. I'll make sure that my profile information is correct after viewing my first post, but I use an AirfitF10 FFM and the ResMed Airsense10 with a humidifier and the SlimLIne hose. Pulmonologist (my first sleep doctor face-to-face visit) just gave me permission yesterday to play with APAP, but I've been on CPAP at 8cm fixed pressure very successfully for 40+ days with AHI under 2.0. I started with the Swift Nasal Pillow FX mask and had AHI under 0.5 for a couple of weeks, but problems with air leaks and comfort caused me to try and switch to the FFM.
