High Pressure with Nasal CPAP

Post by WoodsyTheOwl » Mon Feb 23, 2015 10:37 pm

Hi,

I was prescribed 14 centimeters of water, and am currently trying to find a mask that works for me. Is that pressure to high for a nasal CPAP?

Thanks!

Leaks of all kinds will be worse with higher pressure with any type of mask.

Mouth leaks tend to be more of a problem with nasal masks at high pressure, so some people say you need a full face mask (FFM). You can fight mouth leaks with chin straps, but they can still be a problem. However, the mask itself will leak more at high pressure and I would expect this to be worse with a FFM.

I use 16 with my Swift FX nasal pillow mask. I make my own chin strap and occasionally have problems with mouth leaks.

Some people seem to think certain types of mask don't work with high pressure, but I'm not sure there's any hard and fast rules.

Absolutely not. I have used my elan cloth nasal mask at 14/10 with minimal leak levels. All you can do is try them to see what works best.
