Do I have to tell the DME when I move out of state?

Post by Logies101 » Mon Feb 23, 2015 8:26 pm

I've had my machine for 2 1/2 months, about 2 weeks shy of the 90 day trial compliance period. By my estimate I've easily met the standards Medicare set to keep the machine. We sold our home and in a few days are moving out of state. Do I have to tell the DME? Should I wait til I move to notify them in case they want it back? I believe the outfit is nationwide but I'm not sure if I am required to notify them before hand. There is a wireless modem on the machine.

You should talk to Medicare, if only because your machine is a capped rental, and you will need stuff in the future.
If the DME needs to know, Medicare should tell you.

Okay, I'll reluctantly do that Chunkyfrog. I ' really hate dealing with Medicare and DME's.

It's worse to be a fugitive.
Remember that SICK video game; I had to stay hidden for a long time!

If you got the machine under Medicare you'll be paying a copay for 13 months so they need to know where to send the bill.

My secondary picks up whatever Medicare doesn't pay, at least that 's what they told me. Don't get me wrong, I had every intention of giving them my new address lol, I was just worried that i might have to give it back to the DME here and have to go through the process again. I think it might be okay though since my DME is nationwide.

Not every supplement is available in every state--check with them.

I had no idea, so my particular secondary might not be? I have Mutual of Omaha secondary and moving to Texas.

The major DMEs have offices that can continue to provide supplies locally. When you talk to the DME they should offer to forward your prescription and records to the new location. If you're using a small local DME they will only be concerned about being paid. The machine goes with you. Your insurance isn't changing, so should not be a problem.

Check with Mutual of Omaha, and ask if you can continue your existing coverage in Texas.
State laws may vary. I believe your plan or a very similar one should be available in most states,
but it may not be the same company in another state.
Location may also affect your premiums, but it should not be by much.
Medicare is federal, but supplements vary by state.
Call and get it squared away before it bites you in the butt.

I have a Medicare Advantage Plan. Coverage and premiums very by county here in California, but CA is a much bigger state than TX. Oh wait a minute, TX is a tad bigger. The coverage and premium and even availability may vary by county there also. You should not ass u me anything.
In your spare time while moving and dealing with the DME you might want to check with your insurance company to se what they will do for or to you in Texas.

Absolutely, your current dme may not be a Medicare vendor where you are moving due to competitive bid. Better to find out now than get hit with bills later.
