Respironics new flow generator??
Respironics new flow generator??
Does anyone know if respironics is planning to release a new flow generator any time soon? I thought that maybe they would do so at the upcoming medtrade conference. If so, any opinions on that vs Resmed's Airsense 10?

there'll ALWAYS be a new flow generator coming eventually.Gschultz1 wrote:Does anyone know if respironics is planning to release a new flow generator any time soon? I thought that maybe they would do so at the upcoming medtrade conference. If so, any opinions on that vs Resmed's Airsense 10?
Get OSCAR
Accounts to put on the foe list: dataq1, clownbell, gearchange, lynninnj, mper!?, DreamDiver, Geer1, almostadoctor, sleepgeek, ajack, stom, mogy, D.H., They often post misleading, timewasting stuff.

Re: Respironics new flow generator??
I haven't heard of anything new yet but that doesn't mean much. Typically the manufacturers always keep a closed lip on this type of news. We can always assume that they are working on something new but it's pure speculation as to what it might encompass and when it will be released to the public.
Heck we could call them up and ask them and today be told nothing new on the horizon only to have it be released next week.
The initial release of the first of the 60 series was in March of 2012...so that's 3 years and we would expect something else probably in the next year to keep up with the Resmed competition but that's just a guess and an assumption based on past history.
The 60 series release was mainly to compete with the ResMed Heated hose feature...there were a few other minor bells and whistles but the main thing was the integrated heated hose option.
Right now other than the addition of the new "for Her" algorithm (which may or may not be that big of a deal to someone) is really the only thing the new AirSense machines have that Respironics doesn't that really would maybe matter to me as a patient. The modem thingy where the Airsense can always phone home isn't a benefit to the patient so I don't count it as an advantage. Makes me wonder what Respironics would add in competition to the AirSense. I don't see Respironics changing the LCD data display because they don't seem to think the patient needs anymore than what they offer and it hasn't changed much ever since they first started doing it.
But I am sure that they are working on a new "latest and greatest" and they will tell us about it when they are good and ready.

Re: Respironics new flow generator??
Thanks! I thought the AirSense10 had an "informatics" thing that was new. I heard it compared to a fitbit for sleep. Sends your data to your phone, provider, etc. I thought Respironics doesn't have that yet. Any clarification would be much appreciated. Thanks again.
Re: Respironics new flow generator??
The new AirSense has a built in wireless modem to transmitting data without having to use a modem attached to the machine but both brands have had that wireless ability for quite some time but as an add on modem instead of built in. ResMed has just built it into the machine now.Gschultz1 wrote:Thanks! I thought the AirSense10 had an "informatics" thing that was new. I heard it compared to a fitbit for sleep. How much data it actually transmits I don't know..meaning I don't know exactly the level of detail data that gets transmitted.
It's still going to be limited to whatever data the machine can gather and report on and doesn't do sleep stages and all that stuff.
Now Resmed has a separate device similar to the fitbit thing for supposedly sleep stages and sleep quality but that's a totally separate device from the cpap machines. I think along the lines of the old Zeo for evaluating sleep stages. I forget what it is called but costs $150 and Bed, Bath and Beyond has them (along with other places).
I think both brands offer limited blue tooth capabilities for cell phone apps giving a glimpse of what the data shows but I can't swear to it or the extent of the data available. Respironics has SleepMapper which isn't worth the time it takes to install it.
ResMed has SleepSeeker and I feel the same about it as I do SleepMapper.
