Seething (SEETHING!) With Rage

Post by ThomasMcKean » Wed Feb 11, 2015 3:52 pm

Some of yew remember 6 years ago I came on here absolutely seething with rage. Now I am seething with rage again.

The DME tried to bait and switch me, and told me a pack of lies.

The difference between now and 6 years ago is this time I was ready for it and somewhat expected it.

I did my homework and settled on a DS560 with heated tubing. The DME said she had it. When I got there she changed her mind, said she didn't have it and could not order it and insisted I go with ResMed S10.

NO.

Maybe I would have done it if she wasn't so damn ANAL. Illegal to change settings, yew know. Yew are in violation of the law. Could get into trouble! Also if yew change settings, insurance refuses to pay for it. Sigh.

Riiiiggggghhhhttt.....

Also those things yew can do with the S10? Guess what. Yew CAN'T! No option to pre heat the humidifier AND there NO WAY to turn off the wireless.

Riiiigggghhhttt.....

I showed her how and she STILL said there was no way to do it.

Sigh.

Lots of other things as well that she said yew couldn't do that I showed her how. I should NOT know more about these machines (especially ones I have never used) than SHE does!

It is time to go elsewhere. And I will. Meanwhile, no machine for me.

Voice Recorder. I take a voice recorder to every visit to a DME... I place it right in front of me before we get started. they know it is recording and even then they may say something that is not accurate, but now I have a recording of what exactly they said and how they responded to my questions.

You get a different response from someone when they know you are recording their every word. Use it on phone calls as well.

I use a separate device but you can use most cell phones.

Eleven states require the consent of every party to a phone call or conversation in order to make the recording lawful. These "two-party consent" laws have been adopted in California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Washington. May 14, 2014

Craigslist looking better yet?

The DME and insurance situation is just ridiculous. It's hard to imagine any system could be better designed to cheat people out of their hard earned (paid) benefits. Using insurance and their approved DME is almost a guarantee to spend more on copays, deductibles and doctor's costs, than you would by using an out of network online DME.

Was it an A10 "CPAP" or an A10 "Elite." The A10 "CPAP" is a semi-brick, which may be why she tried to scam you.

I don't blame you for being angry about the bait-and-switch, but I'm wondering how you got into a debate with the DME over changing settings, etc. etc. It sounds as if the DME asked you to defend your choice of machines, and you responded with all your reasons. Bad idea.

Defending your personal choice of any product to a salesperson that wants to sell you something else is ALWAYS an exercise in futility, not to mention it being a total lack of respect towards you as the buyer. All salespeople are trained to use this tactic simply as a way to wear you down and "flip" you to the product they have or want to sell. It is better never to give them this opportunity to try to wear you down. Do you really think they are going to care what your reasons are? Never defend your choice with your reasons for your choice!

It's been my experience that it's better to save yourself a lot of aggravation and insult to your dignity by replying something along the lines of:
"That's my choice and my decision. I am not going to defend my choice to you or waste my time giving you my reasons. If you can't or won't sell me what I have chosen, just say so and I will walk out and saves us both a lot of wasted time."
You'll feel much better saying it, with a minimal of aggravation and in a few seconds you will feel great walking out of the store, either with YOUR choice or with nothing.

Best wishes, Nate

My dear sweet friends at Apria?

At least my Dr had a Rx for the machine, but ZERO SUPPORT for it when I picked it up or tried to get consumables.

Fun was an ER visit (no BM for nine days.... not good). CT with contrast was performed, and various other fun. $12,000 billed. Ouch Irony is my colon was not blocked (which was great) but CT found something in my lung (PET SCAN confirmed it's my little friend to be watched to see how much it grows, too much risk to blindly remove it).

Oh Dear Ms Frog, what do you recommend for a travel machine? I've been hauling my current machine around, but would love something smaller/lighter.
Yes, I like your avatar. I used my "always smiling Golden Retriever" as I'm always upbeat and smiling. If it wasn't that I'd be a big toad
