new to CPAP
Just had my second sleep study to determine the pressure for the CPAP. I seem fortunate in that the center where I had my study is also where I will be getting the CPAP. They will be responsible for set up and answering questions if I have problems. From what I've read not everyone is this lucky and are on ther own once they recieve a CPAP machine. My first question deals with the type of equipment I've been told they use. It will be the Respironics Remstar Plus with heated humidifier. Not sure if it will have C-flex or not. Any good or hopefully not bad experiences with this type. I really don't think I have much choice because when I spoke with the CPAP tech she stated that this was (in their opinion) the best they had to offer at the time. I did not use this during the study. Next question deals with how I felt afterwards. I didn't think I slept that well but they seemed to think I did. Is it just in my head that I think I felt better the next day or can some see results that quick? This was on Thursday night of last week and Friday I felt good. Saturday and Sunday were okay because I was in bed longer. Today Monday boy was I sleepy. I should pick up my CPAP on Thursday. Thanks for any help.
Well... I wouldn't take what they want to give you just because they say it's the best they have available. If they won't give you something you WANT, tell them "Thank you so much" and then call your insurance company and find some other providers around that will work with them, call around and say "Hey, I'm with <x> insurance company and have a prescription for a PAP machine. I want the <model> from <brand>, with <x> mask and heated humidifier, etc. If you can provide it, you've got my business."
Also, check your policy carefully. With the combination of coverage limits and deductibles, you MAY find our out-of-pocket is cheaper if you go directly to CPAP.COM and buy what you want there.
Good luck!
Liam, who wishes he'd known about all of this BEFORE he got his machine.

Hello heatcoolguy and welcome
There is a strong opinion from the experienced people in this forum that an autoPAP is superior to CPAP for most people, so if I were you I'd ask about the Remstar auto.
The thread called "Sleep doctor" doesn't like autopaps started by rested gal is a good example:

I know that I went to the darkside and am getting my machine from a DME. I went into the DME office and told them what I wanted and that is what they are getting me (auto with cflex). You need to read post and do some research on the net and become informed. I look at it this way, this is your health and you should have some say in how you are treated.
