Contour CPAP pillow with pillow cover

Post by Hawthorne » Sat Feb 07, 2015 11:52 am

I sleep on my back exclusively - of necessity. I have used a regular contour pillow for years with my cpap but am no waking with neck and shoulder stiffness and soreness.
I was looking at this specialty cpap pillow on cpap.com for $59.95. The height of the neck rest area sounds right for me as a back sleeper.

Does anyone, who sleeps on their back, use this pillow?

I would like to hear from back sleepers who uses this. What are your experiences with it - good and bad?

Thanks.

you should provide a link to the pillow you are looking at.
If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Sorry but I don't know how to do that so I put in the full name and the price. I hoped people could find it on cpap.com with that info.

Hi Hawthorne

Is this the pillow you're looking at? It's a Contour Pillow

https://www.cpap.com/productpage/contou ... cover.html

To insert a url, go to the product page, and copy the address. Then come here and post a message. Up at the top where the buttons are (Spell Check, B I U Quote etc) you will see a button called URL. Click on that button and {url}{/url} shows up. Note that it's actually a square bracket, not a curly one. Your cursor should be between the to URLs. Paste the address of the item you just copied and it will appear between the two brackets. You then use your mouse or keyboard arrow keys to move to the right of the address

Example:
Press the URL button and this appears
{url} {/url}

then paste the address between the two brackets
{url}https://www.cpap.com/productpage/contou ... .html{/url}

-Bill

That's the one, Bill! Thanks. I will try your method of posting the link but I am not too computer literate.

Thanks for taking the time to look it up!

This is the cpap pillow I am asking about. I would like to hear from back sleepers who use it. What do you find good and bad about it?

Thanks - and thanks Bill!

Oops - thought I would get more than the picture!! Don't know what I did wrong but, hopefully Bill's post will help!

There are a lot of reviews on the cpap.com site about it. Did you read them?

A lot of people using cpap don't sleep on their backs so that will limit the number of people here that have that pillow to comment on it.

I use a buckwheat pillow from Pur-Sleep but then I sleep on my stomach.

Yes, I know most don't sleep on their back. I have no choice because of pain. I had my sleep study and titration study done on my back 13+ years ago and have always slept on my back. My AHI is almost always below 1.

Because back sleeping is not recommended, I don't expect many responses but had hoped for a couple anyway. I read all the reviews on cpap.com but hardly any were from back sleepers there either.

I'll wait and see.

there's not really much point in buying a specialty side sleeper pillow if you always sleep on your back.... or even looking at it.

The description of the pillow says that it is multi purpose - for side, back and stomach sleepers! If is didn't say "for back sleepers" as well, I wouldn't be considering it.

Go to Amazon.com, search "pillows for back sleepers". Dozens of different pillows hundreds of reviews.

I have looked on Amazon.com and everywhere else and have not come up with anything that might work.

Please don't reply to this thread unless you can answer what I asked in the first post - any back sleepers try this and what is good and bad about it?

Except for Bill's reply, that told me how to post a link, NONE have been helpful at all. If you are not a back sleeper with experience with this pillow, please don't fill up the thread. It is not helpful.

Isn't it amazing how you can't get a simple answer?

Yes, I used the Contour pillow for several years. I now use a buckwheat pillow. I like it better, but it took a while to get used to. The Contour pillow was a nice memory foam pillow. I liked it because it had a ledge that your neck could rest on. Note that it comes in different heights (1" - 2" etc...). If you want a memory foam cpap pillow, this is your answer. The reason I went to the buckwheat was because you could shape your pillow to fit your needs. I am a back sleeper, but I do like to sleep on my side. For me, the Contour was too wide. When I rolled to my side, the cutout was a 3 or 4 inches away. The mask would nudge the pillow as a regular pillow would and cause leaks. The only way I could resolve this was to scoot (slide) the pillow so the cutout was under the mask. If I was "cpap conscious" (the same amount of consciousness we use to fight the hose draping around our body all night long), I would slide the pillow. If I was in a deep sleep, I wouldn't and leaks would occur, often awakening the wife. There was a thread on the buckwheat and I knew Pugsy had used one for a long time, so I gave it a try. Again, the buckwheat is a hard pillow, and took me a while to get used to, but it turned out to be a great pillow. Funny how cpap therapy taught me patience!
