F&P HC150 humidifier compatibility, experience

Post by tigerbear » Wed Feb 04, 2015 3:24 pm

Hello everyone,

I've been thinking of using the Oracle face mask, since other full and nasal face masks haven't worked for me. (I seem to have strong allergies that make nose breathing difficult.)

As many other people have noted in the forums, the Oracle mask dries out your throat and requires a very strong humidifier. I've use it with my Resmed Airsense 10, but the integrated humidifier is not strong enough.

Many people have recommended that the Oracle be used with the F&P HC150 humidifier, so I am thinking of buying it. But will it definitely be compatible with the Resmed Airsense? People have noted that it is compatible with some other devices, but not specifically that one. Or perhaps it pretty much works with all machines?

I have read some reviews on the Oracle (it seems people have mixed experiences), but if anyone has any additional tips or thoughts on the Oracle + HC150 combo, I'd appreciate them. Thanks!

Have you seen a good ENT/Allergist? They should scope your nasal passages down to your pharynx (Nasopharyngoscopy, see http://www.fauquierent.net/endo.htm). This can be done in a few minutes in the office on the first visit. Make sure the doctor knows that you have sleep apnea. Likely he will also want to test for allergies.

I am not in the least bit optimistic that you will tolerate an oral-only interface. Much better to address being able to breathe through your nasal passages.

Hi (and welcome to the forum).

I can't speak to the Oracle mask, but I sure can say that the HC150 is an awesome humidifier. I've been using it for years now, and I love it. I have a Respironics ASV machine, but I'm reasonably sure that the F&P will work with any machine. I live in AZ (where the air is very dry), my F&P is set at 2 most of the time, and it provides me with plenty of humidity. Granted, I'm not breathing through my mouth with my mask like you would be with the Oracle, but I trust that you could crank up the humidity setting and be just fine with the F&P.

Good luck!
Veni, vidi, Velcro. I came, I saw, I stuck around.

PR S1 ASV 950, DreamWear mask, F&P 150 humidifier, O2 @ 2L.

Thank you for the replies!

I recently went to see a sinus specialist. Apparently I might have a sinus infection -- the lab results will come in soon.

Thank you for the comments on the HC150. I'll probably end up purchasing it.

With the oracle, you need to turn up your humidifier on the highest level and keep it there. Be prepared to droll throughout the day for the first 2-3 weeks as your body acclimates to having your mouth dry out during the night.

Why don't you fill out your equipment profile? Members can give you better advice if they know what you are using.

I would get this issue resolved before buying anything.

I looked at that Oracle mask and it sounds horrible. What happens if you get your nose unstuffed? Does the Oracle mask blow the pressure out through your nose?
