Itchy nose

Post by Sleepy Pete » Thu Feb 05, 2015 2:37 am

I'm about 4 months in to cpap treatment, still tired, though not as bad as before, and still being woken around 5 times every night by an itchy nose. Or maybe i'm being woken by something else and by coincidence my nose is itchy then?

Anyone else have this problem?

Does anyone know how to solve it?

Pete.

Trim your nasal hairs, when the machine is on those little suckers start moving around. That was a piece of advice I received when I started and it definitely was my problem. When my nose start's to itch I know it's time to trim.

For some sadistic reason best known to Mother Nature, my nose never itches unless I can't scratch it - i.e., when I have my full-face Darth Mask on Drives me nuts sometimes!

I don't know if this will work for itchy nose that wakes you up, but I almost always have an itchy nose right when I put on my mask--it's the tickling sensation from the airflow.

The trick is to scratch your nose vigorously BEFORE you put the mask on. That overwhelms the sensory system so it's not bothered by the slight tickle of the airflow.

You might be responding to changes in pressure. If so, you may want to see if you can get a fixed pressure dialed in and still have good results.

Interesting! I'm going to try that myself.

Yes, that's a problem for me too.

I do trim my nose hair, and I often "pre-scratch." I often get itches just outside my nostrils, so nose hair isn't causing that. A previous mask was tight fit and my nose would often bump against the inside when I turned my head. A new mask gives me more clearance but I still suffer with tickles.

Besides the air turbulence, I have the idea that high humidity settings can perhaps cause tiny little water droplets to condense on my nose, then the airflow buffets them, they "wobble" an invisible amount and... my nose tickles!

most peoples noses aren't exactly precise about exactly where the itch is, so don't rule out those itches around your nose being from rustling nose hairs... it's your bodies way of saying OY! A BUG FLEW UP THERE! GET IT OUT!

But what if I'm not Jewish? Will it still yell "oy?" Or is that pirate-ese? Because I think THAT would be more "arr!"

I have had flies go up my nose (and a few in the mouth too) what you say when it happens is basically unintelligible.

I like the "pre-scratch" idea. I think I do that every night without thinking... but for now on, I'll give a good "once-over" before I put my mask on. I keep a popsicle stick on my bed stand to slide under the mask to get that "itch that keeps on itchin'".

Pirate trucker's the life for me... weren't we just talking about how good you'd look swinging down from your truck (ship) with your parrot on your shoulder and eyepatch, and frilly hat?
