s9 autoset vs. airsense10
s9 autoset vs. airsense10
Hello all,
Coming up on my 5 year anniversary on cpap.
I have been using the s9autoset faithfully for the full 5 years
and now I am eligable to get a new machine.
I haven't seen much about the airsense units yet and am a little unsure
whether to go for that model. I have many years of backup climateline hoses and filters for the s9 and my
supplier says they will continue to have supplies for the s9 for years to come.
I am thinking of just getting another s9 since I know the unit and its reliability
as far as my therapy goes.
Please feel free to throw out as many comments....Good or bad about anything anyone has to say.
I am only here today in better health than before mainly because of all the people on this website.
It truly got me where I needed to be and brought back a quality of life that I was missing.
Thank you all,
Marke

Gramps and I both get good therapy. But we both want to try the new "for her" 10 algorithm.
If you don't try, you won't know what you are missing.

Re: s9 autoset vs. airsense10
The AirSense 10 AutoSet for Her model has a second APAP mode available with a special algorithm (2 apap modes and of course cpap mode) where the regular AirSense 10 has the 2 modes like your S9 AutoSet has (apap and cpap).
The AirSense machines record Cheyne Stokes Respiration breathing pattern should someone experience it...nice feature but not always even needed for most folks.
Otherwise not really much difference in terms of function...now the overall look and how it does the humidity thing (even more customizable with the AirSense heated hose over the S9 with Climateline) might tempt some people.
Your backlog of S9 supplies...you could easily sell on the forum if you wish.
So far we have a few people going from their S9 Autosets to the AirSense Autosets and I haven't heard one complaint yet.
For some people the lure of "latest and greatest" is a strong lure and some people it isn't so much.
I myself would be interested in the additional customization of the humidity with the AirSense heated hose but that's just me because I like LOTS of moisture and a cold bedroom and am always looking for additional options on anything. The lure of "latest and greatest" has always been a really strong lure for me no matter what machine I have been using.
Go here and request the provider manual and you can see what is offered to see if anything trips your trigger.

Your post reminded me to ask you a question about Cheyne Stokes Resp and Sleepyhead (9.8.1)
I have been using the Airsense Autoset for a few months now, and also downloading data in the newer version of Sleepyhead. I did not change any defaults in the preferences section of Sleepyhead, and when I look in that section it appears that CSR is checked by default. So when I look at my data in the "Daily" section of Sleepyhead, over on the left where it has the sort of summary event panel with the colored pie chart, and events listed I never see CSR listed in the event breakdown. Of course I assume that's because I never have any CSR so that line just doesn't show up, but there are other lines that do show up that often have a "zero" reading. So my question is: why are some events listed in that section with zeros or no occurrences, yet the line for CSR never shows up. Am I missing something in the preferences section? If I did have a CSR event would that line item then simply just show up?

Yes it would simply show up.TangledHose wrote:If I did have a CSR event would that line item then simply just show up?
I don't understand why some things show up with 0.0 and some don't show up until there is something above 0.0.
I do know that the Events graph will sometimes do that to me...sometimes it shows as a line when nothing is flagged and sometimes it doesn't but when it doesn't I know for sure nothing happened.
I have yet to see AirSense reported CSR in either SleepyHead or ResScan and when I do I plan to ask for some close ups in both SleepyHead and ResScan just to see how it gets reported and does it do like the PR S1 does and stick with true CSR ish pattern or also flag what is unexciting plain Periodic breathing.
So if you ever do get a CSR flag...I would like some close ups.

OK, that's what I thought..........so probably some programming preferences and the way Jedi Mark set things up, thanks for the confirmation.
So, should I go out and get a case of congestive heart failure so that I can produce a good screen shot of CSR for you?
I'll be sure and let you know if that ever happens *lol*

Re: s9 autoset vs. airsense10
Go get the Airsense 10! I had the S9 for five years too. I JUST switched to the Airsense 10 a month ago and I LOVE it! It is a new design and for the better! Love the new humidifier too - so easy to see if it needs filled and easy to clean. If you have any questions about it just ask. It is a really nice upgrade!

Re: s9 autoset vs. airsense10
I've been calling that choice a tossup, but I expect the A10 to become the clear choice soon.
S9 has a great track record. The A10 has a few improvements, but no really great improvements over the S9. If it weren't for fear of problems cropping up in the new model, I'd say A10 is a clear winner. The A10 has been out long enough now that the fear of it being a lemon is fading.
If I didn't have one and was going to get one, I'd probably go with the A10, but wouldn't be disappointed with the S9 if I somehow ended up with that.
The PRS1 machines are roughly on par with the ResMed machines as well.
Avoid the A10 "CPAP" model, get at least the Elite. The AutoSet for Her is definitely the top dog of the A10 CPAP line.

Thanks all,
good feedback, but I'm still on the fence.
Have to do a little more research before committing.
